Dear Bull Parents:
For those of you who played on the Bulls last year, this is the next step. There will be
two (possibly 3) teams in the fourth grade. If you are going to try out please try and
register soon so that we can figure out the logistics of the try outs and Coach Evans can
pull together the resources needed to evaluate the kids.
Thanks,
Brian

Subject: Fourth Grade Travel Basketball Tryouts
Dear Parents:
Fall Sports are in full swing but we need to also focus on the next sports season which is
basketball. We are excited to announce that there will be new opportunities for players
looking to play more advanced basketball in addition to playing in our normal YMCA
recreation league.
The details are as follows:
• We are currently planning two teams of approximately 10 players. This may
change subject to participation.
• Teams will be entered in the winter league of the Brewster Sports Center
(www.brewstersportscenter.com ) about 30 minutes from New Canaan. They
offer a competitive league in a well-run sports facility.
• The season will begin in mid-to- late November and last until late March. We
will do our best to avoid conflicts with the vacation and holiday schedule of New
Canaan Public Schools.
• Games and most practices will be played at various times on Saturdays and
Sundays and we will schedule away from conflicts with the YMCA 4th grade
league. We will look to play two games in consecutive time slots when available
to minimize travel time.

• Participation in the YMCA league will be a requirement to play this additional
basketball.
• The season will consist of 12 regular season games (plus playoffs) at Brewster
plus additional games in and around New Canaan with local Fairfield and
Westchester teams. Total sessions are expected to be about 16-20 games plus
practices (10+).
• Teams will be coached by experienced, high level coaches with a focus on
fundamentals and player development.
• Approximate cost will be $400 and will include: uniforms, coaches, practice
facilities, league fees, referees, insurance and all necessary equipment and
supplies.
Tryouts will be on Saturday October 18 from 12 to 3 pm at the New Canaan YMCA.
They will be conducted by an experienced, independent third party to ensure fairness.
You must register for Y-Ball in advance in order to participate in the tryouts.
