James believes we can increase Zorro speeds by 50 percent by upgrading modem. He anticipates cost of
modem to be no more than 1,000. Please advise if ok to proceed. Thank you.

These results aren't as dramatic as • hoped, but they do demonstrate a significant improvement between
using the slower modem that is running the house wifi and the faster one inside the JetPack.
We can upgrade the house wifi modem to a newer model (that supports XLTE and carrier aggregation)
without messing with the antennae (read: no need for a professional installation), so the total cost should be
well under $1000 (probably $300 - $600 range depending on what hardware we decide on).
At worse, we'd squeeze 50% more speed out of the VZW connection for the house wifi network.
If the boss wants to pursuit this, I can (do my best to) manage the upgrade & installation with Brice and
Feeney.

LTE averaged 13 down, 12 up
Jetpack, 19 down, 10 up
please note jetpack is very location specific
hope this helps, let me know if you need any other info

Hi Brice,
When you have time -- no rush here -- could you please do a couple speed tests (speedtest.net) on your
laptop on the main house wifi and a couple on one of the jet packs in the kitchen?
Randomly I picked up a client in the city that was in a similar situation -- hurricane Sandy knocked out
their phone lines and Verizon isn't fixing them and their neighbors' landlord won't let TimeWarner run
through that building to get service to theirs -- so I set them up with a Verizon Wireless modem &
router from Feeney Wireless similar to the one you've got there.
Along the way I learned way more about VZW than I'd ever wanted. Specifically, their XLTE network
is actually just LTE running over a faster band 4 spectrum (it allows faster data, but doesn't travel as
far, thus they're running on dual bands in most locations).
They also introduced something called "Carrier Aggregation", which allows a single device to open
multiple connections to a tower's unused bandwidth thereby doubling the connection speed to the
device.
VZW rolled both of these out around the time I was there, so if I'm right, the Jetpack is likely to
support both, while the Feeney Wireless modem doesn't support either. If this is the case, the jet packs
will test in the mid 20s Mbps, while the wifi will max out in the low teens.
The good news is that the upgraded FW modem that would support both XLTE & CA is only a couple
hundred bucks and could be swapped for the old one without any real configuration changes.
I'm pretty sure Jeffrey would want to upgrade, but before I suggest it to him, I'd like to have the speed
tests to confirm that it will make a difference.
Like I said, no rush. I'm sure you have much more urgent things on your plate.
