Give it some further thought, if you would. I think there is an opening here. What you need is an excuse--or
opportunity--to make the public argument.

Below email is mostly self-explanatory. Just to add that Lorin Stein, a friend of mine, was the well-
regarded editor of the Paris Review who also appeared on the "Shitty Men in Media List" and who lost his
job as a result. I don't know Stephen Elliot but I have always thought that the way back from this climate
is through specific instances of individuals successfully challenging their persecution. If his story is solid
he might be worth supporting. Thoughts?
I'm off to London (GQ Man of the Year!) and back at the end of next week. m

Dear Michael,
The writer Stephen Elliott got in touch yesterday. He was on the Shiny Media Men List and is looking for
legal representation. He's not at all dumb or crazy. His pitch letter is below. I'd be grateful if you had any
ideas I could pass along. (He is correct that Donegan has sold a book proposal.)
If you're moved to ask around, I'd ask that you please leave my name out of it.
I hope this finds you very well -
Lorin
Here's Elliott's pitch:
Dear Lawyer,
I was named on The Shirty Media Men document. You've probably heard of it. I was underlined in red for violent sexual assault or
rape. There was a notes box in my row stating "multiple rape accusations." I can send you a copy of the list if you haven't seen it
already.

All of the accusation in the Shiny Media Men document are anonymous so the owner of the list, Moira Donegan, doesn't even
necessarily know who made the accusations.
But she created the list, and published it. She's the one who outlined me in red, I think (one of 16 entries out of 74) and she's the one
who made the note that there were "multiple" rape accusations. So in some way she at least edited the entry.
I'm reasonably certain the accusation of rape against me is malicious. And I don't believe there is anyone out there who believes I
actually raped them. For starters, I don't like sex. I'm kinky and engage in BDSM but only as a submissive crossdresser. I don't enjoy
penetrating women. I also have never had sex with anyone who works in or is connected to media, in other words, anyone who
would have had access to that list in the 12 hours it was live online. I've written publicly about my sexuality so I'm not worried about
that aspect of my life becoming public. I dated a woman for 2 years once without ever seeing her naked.
The consequences of being on the list have been profound and I would love to talk to you about it. I can definitely document very
real consequences to being named as a rapist on a publicly available list.
I'm interested in discussing whether or not I should bring suit. I'm concerned in particular because of the one year statute of
limitation on defamation suits. So I would have to file fairly soon.
I would sue Moira Donegan and Jane Doe, I think, trying to find out the names of whoever originally put me on the list. Maybe
through a subpoena to Google as the original spreadsheet was a Google Doc.
At the same time I don't have financial means. So I understand it might not be possible for you to take on this case. I don't know if
Moira has any money currently to sue for but I know she was shopping around a book about the list. If she sold it there hasn't been an
announcement. A friend in publishing told me he thinks the book sold for a fair amount but they're intentionally not announcing. I
don't know if that's true.
Would you be open to discussing with me?
Thank you!
