*Giuliani Highlights Economics, ACORN, Bill Ayers, Reverend Wright, Bill
Kristol, CEOs Prefer McCain, and Obama's Lack of Experience; Ignores Palin
and Troopergate* (FNC 10/14/08 7:34am)
STEVE DOOCY: As you look at Barack Obama...and you're the guy who's been
credited with saving New York City in a lot of ways, as you look at Barack
Obama's past is there anything, because he doesn't have any executive
experience, there's gotta be something in his history would suggest to you
that he could get us out of this mess, isn't there?
RUDY GIULIANI: haha, well no. The reality is, he's never run a city, never
run a state, never run a business, never run a military unit, never managed
a budget. His community organizer experience was in groups very similar to,
if not exactly the same as ACORN, the group we're talking about right now-
it's a group that, I think his campaign gave 800 thousand dollars to, or an
affiliate of ACORN so I think the choice is pretty clearly, in terms of
experience, for John McCain, John McCain has had experience at all levels of
government, and he's someone who's been through crisis, lead this country
through crisis before, so I would think the people are gonna turn to him, as
they feel this country needs very very steady leadership.
GRETCHEN CARLSON: Mayor, I had a chance to sit down with Hillary Clinton
yesterday [...]I asked her about her 3am ad, which became infamous and who
she[...]at the time, when she cut that ad, she didn't think Barack Obama was
capable of handling the country's problems at 3am, but when I asked her
yesterday who she felt more comfortable with, she answered Barack Obama over
John McCain. Your thoughts?
RUDY GIULIANI: Well I wouldn't expect any other answer. I mean, Joe Biden
also said Barack Obama wasn't prepared to be Commander in Chief, that we
shouldn't have on the job training in a time of crisis. I would think you
have to go back and take those statements pretty seriously, now, obviously
he's now the candidate of the party, you don't expect them to say anything
different than that, but the reality is, Barack Obama is the least prepared
candidate for president in the last 100 years. This is not the time, as Joe
Biden said, to have on the job training, when America is facing economic
challenges, we're facing challenges overseas, we're not paying as much
attention right now to the challenges of terrorism and some of he other
overseas challenges, but they're right there, and they may be paramount for
the next president, who knows.
BRIAN KILMEADE:[...] Do you think one move for [McCain] might be naming
somebody as Treasury Secretary, that Americans can maybe have faith in, so
they'll have an idea of what a McCain Administration would look like?
RUDY GIULIANI: I think the most important thing for him is to emphasize his
plan for the economy, he's putting out a very effective plan today, some of
which has already been discussed, which will help people, help people stay
in their homes, help people withdraw money from the 401Ks or IRAs if they
have to, help us get through this crunch, just as the President, in a few
minutes, is gonna announce a program that I think is gonna very much
stabilize our whole banking situation. So, I think John has to just
emphasize his steady leadership, the fact that he's been through crisis
before, he's brought the country through and at a time like this, we should
not be going for, as I said, in the words of Joe Biden, for on the job
training, for some one who doesn't have experience.
STEVE DOOCY: [...] About an hour ago we ran some tape of Barack Obama,
earlier this year, or last year, talking in front of a group of community
organizers, including ACORN, and he said, essentially, that if he's elected
president of the United States, he's going to have the community organizers
help him for him cabinet...
[laughter]
DOOCY: Your comments?
RUDY GIULIANI: Well, ACORN's under investigation in 13 states, at least four
or five states, their people have been either convicted or indicted for
voter fraud, I don't think it's beyond question that this is one of the
things they systemically are involved in. Whether it's a state like Ohio or
Texas or any place else, Democratic Secretaries of State have pointed out
their voter fraud. This is a group that Barack Obama was a lawyer for, this
was the group he worked with when he was a "so-called" community organizer
and this is the group that his campaign gave an affiliate of this group
800,000 dollars in this very campaign. So I think this is another question
of Barack Obama's lack of judgment. And a reason why, at this time,
Americans are gonna turn to John McCain, who's someone who has experience,
who's been through crisis, handled difficult situations before.
GRETCHEN CARLSON: But, Mr. Mayor, is John McCain gonna take the gloves off
on Wednesday night? Because you have some of these issues he could bring up.
He's bringing them up in his ads! ACORN! Bill Ayers! Reverend Wright! who
for, whatever reason John McCain said he wasn't gonna touch, several months
ago, and so they haven't faltered back on that, even though some of his
campaign staff thinks that he should be talking about Rev. Wright. Is he
gonna be talking about it Wednesday night?
RUDY GIULIANI: Gretchen, you know, I remember preparing for debates like
this, I did eleven with John and John is a terrific debater. You only have
an hour and a half and you cut that in half and that's the amount of time
you have, so you can't talk about everything. He's gotta do a combination of
laying out a vision for this country, he's gotta talk about the economy, he
will, his plan to help everyone and the economy, unlike Barack Obama's which
is a very very truncated plan. As well as, he's gotta talk about national
security, we can't forget about that as we're going through these we
economic problems and at the same time ACORN is a very legitimate issue, I
mean it goes right to the core of the integrity of our election process.
It's not in 1 state, it's not in 2 states, these people are doing this in 13
states. I was in Ohio a couple of weeks ago and what they're doing in Ohio
is really terrible. The Secretary of State is refusing to allow Poll
Watchers for the early voting. Why the heck would you refuse to have poll
watchers if you weren't hiding something that was going on in the polling
place? And that's just one place, there are 12 more where ACORN is under
investigation.
BRIAN KILMEADE: Bill Kristol said that John McCain made a major mistake
bringing up William Ayers, not focusing on the economy, he should fire his
entire staff, and do interviews- do you think John McCain's gotta make
himself more available to the press? Do you think he's gotta start doing
more interviews
RUDY GIULIANI: John is very available to the press. I wouldn't overreact, I
think John's plan is a very, very solid one. Ronald Reagan was behind at
this stage when he was running in 198. Hey- George Bush was behind on
Election Day by 6 points, and won the election, right?
[...]
RUDY GIULIANI: John's gotta go with the fact that John McCain has a history
of dealing with crisis, getting us through it, John has been down in the
polls much worse than this before, he's not gonna overreact and he's gonna
illustrate his experience, against Barack Obama's lack of experience, I
think that's the single most important issue.
[...]
STEVE DOOCY: [CEO MAGAZINE] has a new poll out. They polled 751 CEOs and
they found that of the CEOs by a margin of 4 to 1 they prefer John McCain
and in fact some CEOs said that if Barack Obama were elected President, he
would have a negative impact on business and the economy and one said that
some of his programs would bankrupt the country within three years if
implemented. What does that say?
RUDY GIULIANI: Well, I think what they're reflecting is that Barack Obama's
statements suggest that he's gonna raise tariffs and raise taxes. You know,
when he says he's not gonna continue the Bush tax cuts let me translate that
into plain English: he's gonna raise taxes by more than any president has
ever raised taxes in the past. That is precisely the mistake that was made
in 1929 and 1930 that took a recession, a difficult one and made it into a
Great Depression. The idea that he puts so much emphasis on all these new
government programs, all the money he's gonna spend, all the taxes he's
gonna raise and how he's gonna crack down on trade, I think frightens the
Chief Executives, plus they're people who like to see experience, and they
realize that Barack Obama is the least experienced candidate for President
in 100 years, and they probably end up agreeing with the earlier version of
Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden which is that Barack Obama is not prepared to
be president.
Highlight #2
*Giuliani Claims McCain Has a Steady Hand on the Tiller* (ABC 10/14/08
7:15am)
RUDY GIULIANI: The real issue here is, in my view, John McCain is much more
prepared to be president than Barack Obama. He has the experience, he's lead
this country through crisis before, Barack Obama is basically new on the
scene, doesn't have that experience- those are not personal things, those
are things that go to their resume, and I think that's what John will be
emphasizing. Plus I think his package of reforms for the economy, are really
going to help this economy grow, whereas I think Barack Obama, who wants to
raise taxes, raise tariffs, which is exactly what Herbert Hoover did- would
be a terrible mistake.
ROBIN ROBERTS: And how does John McCain turn it around? Our ABC
News/Washington Post Polls has him ten points down. No one has ever come
back from that kind of deficit. Conservative columnist Bill Kristol says
McCain should fire everyone in his campaign. And, we know he's not afraid to
do that, he did it over the Summer and it really helped, what advice are you
giving him to turn it around?
GIULIANI: You know, my advice is that he just has to get it out. John McCain
is one of the most experienced candidates we've ever had for President. His
prescription on the economy is exactly correct, he's the person who can
handle this country if we have any kind of national security problem, or
anything else. Ronald Reagan was pretty far behind at this point, 3 weeks
before the election. Look, John McCain is someone who's been through
difficulties before, I watched him you know, down and out in the Republican
primary, you know, he came back, he beat me, he beat everybody else, I
believe he's going to do the same thing. John is not someone who's going to
overreact. Very steady hand on the tiller when he's...when things are
difficult and I think we see that now.
Highlight #3
*Giuliani Speaks to the Motivation behind Focus on Seniors* (MSNBC 10/14/08
7:47am)
RUDY GIULIANI: I think the tone of the campaign is just right. I think that
John McCain is emphasizing the economy. He's gonna do it again today. He's
going to unveil a plan to make sure that we compliment the actions the
president will be taking in a few minutes so that we make sure that people
who are struggling to pay their mortgage feel the security that they need,
make sure that seniors who need to take money out of their 401K or IRA are
able to do that without penalty. He's gonna try to make sure that this
economic recovery and relief is spread throughout our entire economy. [...]
CHUCK TODD: [...] McCain's plan: targeted at seniors. Is this about the fact
that it is seniors that have moved away from McCain in places like [key
states]? [...]
GIULIANI: Well, it isn't just targeted toward seniors. [...] It's also
targeted toward capital gains, reduction in capital gains tax, which is
necessary to stimulate investment in our economy, including foreign
investment. I think you have to look at it, Chuck as a kind of balance to
what President Bush is doing today, which I think is very important, which
is putting money directly into virtually all of the banks so that there's
liquidity and fluidity in the economy.
Highlight #4
*McCain 'Has Led Our Country through Crisis Before'; Attacks Obama on
Leadership, Taxes and Tariffs* (CBS 10/14/08 7:14am)
RUDY GIULIANI: [...] John has outlined a plan to help get people through
this crisis. With what the president is doing today, putting $250B into the
banks, John McCain is also making sure that Americans who can't afford their
mortgage, Americans who are seniors who have to take some money out of their
401K or IRA or are forced to do it--that they're all gonna get relief as
well.
So I think the plan that he's announcing today reaches right to the core of
the people who are the most concerned about our economy, people who [...]
are really stretched.
HARRY SMITH: [W]hy should, in three weeks, people entrust the economy to
another republican administration?
GIULIANI: Well, I mean the reality is John McCain is John McCain. We're not
voting for a republican or a democrat. We're voting for John McCain or
Barack Obama. John McCain has the experience. John McCain has led [...] our
country through crisis before. Barack Obama never has. John McCain has a
much clearer vision of the economy. He's not going to raise taxes, not going
to cut off trade with high tariffs they way Barack Obama wants to do. Barack
Obama is talking about the kinds of things Herbert Hoover did.
[Smith laughs]
Highlight #5
*Crist Lavishes Praise on McCain* (FNC 10/14/08 8:20am)
STEVE DOOCY: Of course over the last couple of weeks governor, the economy
has not been good news for your candidate, John McCain. With this infusion
of cash into the banking system how does this help John McCain.
CHARLIE CRIST: Well, I think it does help John McCain, I think it helps all
Americans frankly. But uh you know the thing about John McCain is, this guys
a fighter if there's ever a guy who truly is the comeback kid, its John
McCain he's got determination like nobody else.

I'm proud to stand with John McCain, he is a true American hero, a man of
great strength, great character, certainly a great fighter he is a
statesman, he is a gentleman and he will lead and he will fight hard.

*Pfotenhauer Provides No Specifics on McCain's Economic Proposal's
Cost*(MSNBC 10/14/08 10:35am)
CONTESSA BREWER: [McCain's new economic proposal] is a comprehensive list,
Nancy. How much does the McCain campaign expect it to cost and how's he
going to pay for it?
NANCY PFOTENHAUER: Well, I don't have the official estimate in front of me,
but obviously, Contessa it's going to cost some amount of money over that
period of time but this is a time of crisis and it's important that we
reduce the burdens on American families and you'll note that Senator
McCain's approach is designed to reduce the burdens on American families,
not confiscate money and then kind of put it through the Washington, DC
government spin cycle and then redistribute it back out, which is, among
other things, the least efficient way I can imagine to try to prepare or
provide some relief.
Highlight #7
*Local News Investigates McCain's Possible Impact on Supreme Court* (MSNBC
10/14/08 12:06pm)
EDWARD LAZARUS: If Senator McCain were to win the presidency, he would be
replacing liberal justices presumably with justices far more conservative.
