Republican of Alaska, was well aware that he received an array of gifts,
including a sled dog, a sculpture and a massage chair, as well as the more
valuable services of a longtime friend, Bill Allen, who used his company,
Veco, to oversee a vast remodeling of the Stevens home… Mr. Bottini
methodically tried to demolish Mr. Stevens's explanations for not disclosing
the gifts and services. He asserted that Mr. Stevens had engaged in a
classic cover-up with close and trusted friends to prevent the public from
learning about what he was being given and to ensure that he would continue
to be given free benefits.

rival by 10 points among registered voters, 52 to 42 percent, up from 49 to

Obama's current lead is also fueled by his strength among independent voters

to 44) and white women (49 to 45).

(CNN) — Sen. Barack Obama has his largest lead so far over rival Sen. John
McCain, according to CNN's latest national poll of polls.
Obama leads McCain by nine points in the poll of polls released Tuesday – 51
percent to 42 percent. Seven percent of those surveyed are unsure about
their choice for president.
In Monday's CNN's poll of polls, Obama's lead over McCain was seven points –
51 percent to 44 percent.
