Due to the potential for line loss on all power pushed through the undersea cable supplying the island (expected to be 15%) we are planning to measure the normal consumption and time of day it is used to determine how much of the energy generated by a solar array will be absorbed on the island. The excess power will be pushed back to STT and run the meter backward as expected, however at a loss of 15%. When this power is drawn back to LSJ it will incur another 15% loss. This total 30% loss on all net metered power will affect our plan and design for a solar array installation. We want to achieve a 100% offset of all power consumed with as little waste as possible. The most direct way to measure usage on island will be to purchase and install an industrial grade current transformer at the main feeder. We can use one capable of handling the high voltage of this line (13,800V). It will meter the power in real time and send it to a web server for all if us to review. If we monitor island usage for 2-3 months we should have a very good picture of the power profile. From this data we can arrive at the final PV EFTA00949834 system size for 100% offset. My suggestion is to proceed with the installation of the two smaller systems (cart barn and mechanical buildings) during this 2-3 month monitoring period. These represent only 1/3 of the total expected system size and are well below the possible system size adjustment resulting from line loss measurements. They will be producing more than $150,000/year of power and can be installed by March 1st. When they are finished we can look at the 3-month metered results from the main feeder to adjust the size of the larger ground mounted array to achieve the desired offset. Would you relay this plan to Mr. Epstein for me? I will contact you with the details of the CT meter for the main feeder tomorrow.
