I've been thinking a lot about this because I've got a book coming out (MacMillan, Nov 5th) that dives deeply into the power of reputation over money. The premise is that emerging technologies are causing relationships to take primacy over finance - that tech is helping people connect to people, and in the process is killing currency as the main method of commerce (more info on the book is below).
