Lint 05/00,0i4 When I was ten years old my family and I moved house for the first time. While I was packing up the boxes, I found a painting by Jean Cocteau. I was immediately fascinated by the lightness of the brushstrokes and how beauty emerged from such a simple style. This was my first experience of emotion inspired by art. Since this experience, I have developed a keen interest in arts and culture. Living in Rome, it was easy to foster an interest in the latter and I began going to museums, the opera and discovering Italy's wealth of cultural offerings. I soon realised that it was through fashion that I wanted to pursue this artistic curiosity. I started looking more closely into the fashion industry. Two experiences stood out for me: my internship at Bulgari in 2013 and the first fashion shows that I attended. Working with Bulgari to prepare the Elizabeth Taylor collection was my first insight into what the world of fashion and luxury goods looked like. Contributing to this event was a great experience in working within an international setting as I had the exciting opportunity to work with Bulgari's US team and Jean Paul Troili (the collection was presented in Los Angeles) and I discovered more about the luxury goods business. Secondly, I have attended several fashion shows this year. Firstly, in October 2013 I attended Chanel's spring and summer ready-to-wear show in Paris. Then, in January I attended the Chanel and Valentino Haute couture show in Paris and finally, the Fendi, Emporio Armani and Ferragamo ready to wear show in Milan. I was really impressed by these collections as well as by the magnificence of these events as a whole. These shows further sparked my curiosity for fashion. I feel highly motivated to learn more about this industry and the required skills I need to organize successful events like these. After graduating from the French Lyc€e in Rome (French Baccalaureat majoring in Economic and Social sciences) I decided to take a gap year to pursue my growing interest in fashion and travel. I had the chance to collaborate with famous 'Maisons' on several projects. For example, I participated in the Parisian Débutantes Ball (representing Chanel) in November where I was able to meet people from across the world and understand what was required and expected of me as a brand ambassador. I also took part in the Fendi launch of bag accessories in December and for the Fiamma film/ photography project with Ferragamo. I will also have the opportunity to intern for Ferragamo US PR department for two month in New York City from May to July 2014. These wonderful experiences enabled me to familiarise myself with more haute couture fashion brands and further increase my determination to pursue a career in this sector. This is why I began to research the Istituto Marangoni and, more specifically, the Fashion business English BA. In addition to the material I found on the Internet, I visited the school during an open-day in Paris on February 12th. I attended the program's presentation: I immediately appreciated the course's practical aspect. Even though the creative side of fashion interests me, I feel that working in management, public relations or strategic services is better suited to my skill set. I was able to put these skills to work during my internship at the "Hotel de Russie" in Rome. Those weeks spent in the hotel business showed me the importance of teamwork and I discovered the challenge of coordinating and managing several services simultaneously. I think that the methods and values (team spirit and discipline) that I learned there are transferable to the fashion business. The discipline and perseverance I learned during my internships are, I believe, complementary to my familial and academic backgrounds. I am from an international family: a French mother and an Italian father. Two of my stepbrothers live in the US. This cosmopolitan environment has always encouraged me to be open-minded and curious about foreign cultures. Thanks to my family and my education at the French Lycke in Rome, I am fluent in English, French and Italian.: three languages that seem to be important for Istituto Marangoni and surely will be an advantage in working in the fashion industry. Istituto Marangoni's international status and worldwide reputation for excellence are my most important incentives to join your school. Moving to Paris or London would also be a great opportunity to discover new horizons and cultures and certainly would be another key motivation to study at Marangoni. I believe that the practical skills that I will acquire by completing this program, coupled with additional internship experience, will equip me with all the necessary skills to achieve my goal to work in the fashion industry.
