Hello Insiders,
Are we living in highly unusual times? Is this news cycle unprecedented? Are we
in uncharted waters?
This week we look at the increasing frequency with which these phrases have
turned up in The Times. Is this warranted? Will "highly unusual" eventually
become business as usual? Read!
Moving from highly unusual to highly dangerous: In the heart of the newsroom in
Midtown Manhattan, the reporter David Dunlap has set up a Timeseum, its
current display a nod to the journalists at The Times who put themselves in
harm's way. Shown there are a fragment of a Scud missile, two pieces of an
American-guided bomb, and a bulletproof vest, among other items. The collection
serves as a reminder that Times journalists around the world sometimes have to
put on body armor just to walk out their front door.
We'll be writing more about the Timeseum in the weeks to come, but you can start
getting acquainted with it now. Read!
Finally, to those of you who got in touch with us last week for a Times Truth
button — and there were a lot of you — thank you! Winners will receive a
notification soon.
At the time, we asked you to tell us your favorite section of the paper. Nearly a
quarter of you voted for the Opinion section. Around 17 percent liked the A section
and the front page/home page best. Politics was the next most popular section.
One reader wrote: "Really? Like asking which kid I like best" — to which we say,
it's O.K. to love them all. We do!
Until next week,
Francesca Donner
