Hi everyone - we wanted to give you some updates on recent events, Foundation work, and announcements in the news this week.
Clinton Development Initiative builds agricultural in East Africa
The International Policy Digest<http://www.internationalpolicydigest.org/2015/10/11/delivering-sustainable-development-goals-in-africa/> wrote about how the Clinton Development Initiative builds strategic partnerships in Malawi, Rwanda, and Tanzania to address food insecurity and agricultural sustainability. These are key components of the UN's new Sustainable Development Goals.
"In Malawi, Rwanda and Tanzania, the Clinton Development Initiative (CDI) is implementing a similarly themed model that builds mutual partnerships and blends strengths of the nonprofit, government, research and private sectors toward realization of SDG 2. Within the CDI, strategic partnerships between governments and private sector actors along the value chain are bridging the infrastructure gap."

Partnership between CGEPartnership, Unilever, DFID works to improve health in developing countries
Devex wrote about how Unilever<https://www.devex.com/news/how-unilever-is-harnessing-its-brand-and-consumer-know-how-to-tackle-hygiene-87112>, a CGI member, is leveraging its knowledge and skills to educate people around the world on basic sanitation and hygiene. The piece also discusses how Unilever is partnering with the Clinton Giustra Enterprise Partnership and U.K.'s Department for International Development to create jobs and improve the health and wellbeing of people in developing countries.
"Unilever is also looking at new ways of bringing in innovative ideas and tackling these issues. Last month the company announced a partnership with U.K. Department for International Development and the Clinton Foundation's Clinton Giustra Enterprise Partnership called Transform, which is designed to create jobs, increase incomes and improve the health and well-being of 100 million people in developing countries by 2025. The five-year, 10 million pound ($15.47 million) initiative will start with a focus on water, sanitation and hygiene and will aim to develop social business models that serve low-income households and contribute to the evidence base around behavior change."

How four Foundation initiatives are empowering rural women
In honor of the International Day of Rural Women<https://medium.com/@ClintonFdn/clinton-foundation-experts-discuss-four-ways-to-empower-rural-women-3fc902829433>, Clinton Foundation staff discuss on Medium how our initiatives are helping to empower rural women around the world.
"Observed every year on October 15, the International Day of Rural Women is an important reminder that girls and women in even the most remote parts of the world play a critical role in improving the health, stability, and security of our planet.
The Clinton Foundation has witnessed firsthand the power of rural women through our various initiatives to unlock human potential. We asked four leaders from across the Foundation to discuss their work to empower rural women as agents of positive change and economic growth in their communities."

CGI at the forefront of virtual reality
Tech Insider<http://www.techinsider.io/virtual-reality-experience-with-bill-clinton-2015-10> covered CGI's virtual reality film "Inside Impact: East Africa." Viewers are "virtually" transported to East Africa, where they see how CGI commitments are improving thousands of lives. The author writes about how virtual reality is becoming an important tool in the philanthropic world and how CGI is at the forefront.
"After spending just 10 minutes in virtual reality with Clinton, touring social good projects across East Africa with a little help from the Samsung Gear VR headset, I was convinced: VR is going to be a hugely important tool for nonprofits in the future. It allows people to tell immersive stories about world-changing projects without blatantly tugging at your heartstrings. And it can get across ideas about nonprofit work that might normally make your eyes glaze over."
CGI celebrates International Day of the Girl
In the Huffington Post's Impact<http://www.huffingtonpost.com/greg-woodburn/renee-joslyn-of-cgi-on-th_b_8274094.html> section, Greg Woodburn, founder of Give Running, holds a Q&A with Renée Joslyn, CGI's Director of Girls and Women Integration. The piece is in honor of last Tuesday's International Day of the Girl.
"There are so many great CGI commitments that highlight how investing in girls and women translates into better communities and stronger economies. One commitment that comes to mind focuses on collaboratively building a more effective channel to identify high-potential women entrepreneurs and develop them into strong corporate suppliers."

Hult Prize winners work to improve access to early childhood education
Forbes covered this year's Hult Prize winner<http://www.forbes.com/sites/devinthorpe/2015/10/13/student-entrepreneurs-win-hult-prize-with-radical-early-childhood-education-model/>, which was announced at the 2015 CGI Annual Meeting. The winning team's unique model improves access to early childhood education around the world.
"Prudot sees the problem this way, 'Over 100 million children under the age of six are living in underserved communities and do not have access to quality early childhood education. This situation leads to children being unprepared to enter primary school and with a weaker social and emotional foundation, thus making it more challenging for the youth to thrive and become productive members of society.'
Prudot led the formation of a team of student entrepreneurs in Taiwan, where he attends business school at National Chengchi University. The team launched IMPCT, which operates Playcares.com, and competed in and won the 2015 Hult Prize competition at the Clinton Global Initiative last month."

CGI Commitment to Action supports working families
As part of a CGI Commitment to Action, Stonyfield joined the Working Parent Support Coalition<http://www.concordmonitor.com/news/work/business/18929699-95/stonyfield-adopts-six-months-of-paid-parental-leave>. The coalition, made up of several corporations, will work to develop best practices in supporting working parents.
"The announcement was part of a broader initiative of Stonyfield's parent company, French-based Danone. Danone is part of the newly announced Clinton Global Initiative's Working Parent Support Coalition that includes the U.S.-based divisions and subsidiaries of Barclays, Ernst & Young, KKR and Nestle. The coalition will share best practices and make policy adjustments to support mothers and working families... Each company has made their own pledge, their own commitment, to in some way help support women in the workplace."
