Good morning and happy Monday! I hope you all enjoyed the weekend. I just reviewed the reject log and WOW! New
York is down to 72 cases, minus 3/305 cases, total of 69 cases. Great team work as you continue to resolve these cases
and ensure submission into VNS for notification purposes. Keep up the good work!

Subject: USAO Reject Log for 3/20/23
Good Morning Everyone,
Please take a look at this week's USAO reject log. I've sorted the log based on region and field office. I've also highlighted
some cases which I expect to remain on the USAO reject log until a victim is identified which could take some time. For
these cases, there are no actions needed on your part and it is only there for informational purposes. Once a victim is
identified the VNAs for your region will put in a shell and enter the victims listed in the VIR.
If any cases (not highlighted) on the spreadsheet pertain to your AOR, please address them with your USAO
counterparts. The main reason cases appear on the reject log are incorrect case numbers in USAO's CaseView system
or FBI needing to export the victim from Sentinel to VNS.
Below is a list of common issues that result in cases being on the reject log and how to address them.

Common issues and resolutions are outlined below:
• Invalid Case Number or Fake/Filler FBI case number
• Resolution - Confirm the defendant name(s) associated with the USAO case to assist in
finding the correct FBI case number and provide to USAO
• No victim identified in case yet
• Resolution - Determine if there are identified victims in the case, advise USAO and take
appropriate action
• 305 cases - you may still be waiting on a VIR
• Forensic review and NCMEC review can take several months
• CPVA process takes 10 business days to generate VIR once NCMEC CIR is received
• VSD Victim Notification Analysts (VNA) will enter victims into VNS once you respond to
confirmation email from
• Secret cases will never pass to VNS. The FBI classified status can exist even after the public filing of charges. The
USAO can add the case and victims once non-sealed charges are filed as a non-standard investigative agency case.
Guidance for the USAO is below and questions can be directed to
• In CaseView, enter the agency as "other" and enter the file number provided by FBI
• Using the FBI number will ensure the file number is unique and the using the
"other" agency will allow VNS to accept the CaseView record
• In CaseView, enter FBI as the second agency and the FBI file number
• This will allow CaseView to reflect FBI is assigned the case
If victim(s) are identified. they need to be extorted to VNS. If they were previously exported and not in VNS a
shell needs to be created and the victims need to be added manually.
If only organizations without POC's exist, the VNS team can open a shell to get the case in VNS.
Thank you
