Clinton Foundation July 20, 2012 MAJOR DOMESTIC INITIATIVES Alliance for a Healthier Generation · Next week, the Alliance will welcome three independent members to its Board of Directors: Wendell Pierce, Actor; Dr. Natalie Shirley, President, Oklahoma State University – OKC; and Joan Werner, 100 Women in Hedge Funds. · Also next week, the Alliance will announce and convene its 2013 Youth Advisory Board comprised of 21 young people from across the country, including Zachary Dell, son of Michael & Susan Dell. · Con Agra and Otis Spunkmeyer have signed on to the Alliance’s School Meals Initiative. · Ambassador Bagley’s New Mexico cellular company has donated the use of a cell phone to the Alliance’s Navajo Nation relationship manager so that she has cell reception on reservation land. Health Matters · The Desert Regional Medical Center is interested in returning as presenting sponsor for the 2013 Health Matters conference. Promising talks continue. Karolee Sowle, CEO of Desert Regional Medical Center, will retire on July 31, 2012. She is working tirelessly to advocate for this relationship prior to her departure. · The Alliance is in discussions with Lionel Rabb of the MGR Foundation about a Health Matters pledge. · The Alliance is also in discussions with Humana, Desert Classic Charities, and the PGA Tour about opportunities to host integrated Health Matters activities throughout the week of the tournament. Clinton Economic Opportunity Initiative · As CEO enters the final stretch of its mentoring program in Philadelphia, success stories are beginning to emerge: § Mentee Angelo Salandra, President & CEO of a records management company calledQuality Management Services, was able to receive valuable assistance and guidance from his mentor, Hubin Jiang, President & CEO of ECOMPEX, Inc., on how to effectively win VA contracts. As a serial entrepreneur with vast amounts of experience in garnering contracts with the federal government, Mr. Jiang has proven to be a tremendous asset for Mr. Salandra. § CEO paired Dorothea Gillette-Spencer, CEO and Owner of D-Gillette Industrial Services, with former EMP Mentee, Sam Thevanayagam, President of PartsLife,Inc. Sam worked with Dorothea to review her pricing strategy andrealized that she was under-pricing her services. Together, Dorothea and Sam worked to revise her pricing to be more in line with her competitors. They have recently been working together to enable D-Gillette Industrial Services to gain entry into new industries. MAJOR INTERNATIONAL INITIATIVES Clinton Development Initiative Malawi · CDI is finalizing the sub-lease agreement to submit to Press Agriculture for additional farms for the Anchor Farm Project. In addition, CDI is working with John Deere on a final list of equipment needed for the coming planting season. Agreements with investors are being finalized to develop an agro-distribution business in Malawi to provide services to smallholder farmers involved the project. Clinton Giustra Sustainable Growth Initiative Colombia · In July, the suppliers in CGSGI's Cartagena hotel supplier network project will reach $2 million in sales since the project’s inception. Suppliers include purveyors of fish and seafood, processed foods, agricultural products and uniforms. When CGSGI began this project, the Cartagena hospitality industry did not use local suppliers. As a result of CGSGI's supplier capacity building efforts, the hotels are now committed toprocuring from local supply chains, resulting in business efficiencies for the hospitality industry and job creation for Cartagena's low income community. · Due to this project's success, the hotels have asked CGSGI to expand the supplier base and provide trained labor for the expanding Cartagena hotel sector. CGSGI is currently evaluating the creation of two social enterprises—one that would be a sustainable for-profit intermediary between the hotels and suppliers and one that would establish a Cartagena training center for hospitality labor. CGSGI is also evaluating similar projects for Cusco, Peru and Acapulco, Mexico. Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting · CGI currently has 316 paying members registered for the 2012 Annual Meeting, a decrease of 66 from this time last year. We are systematically reaching out to everyone whose membership has expired since January 1st to encourage renewal, as well as soliciting new memberships. · Since the last update, the Rockefeller Foundation has renewed its Annual Meeting sponsorship for $250,000, the Ford Foundation for $400,000 and the Victor Pinchuk Foundation for $750,000 (plus $250,000 for CGI U). In addition, Western Union has joined as a new Annual Meeting sponsor at the $250,000 level. CGI America · In addition to the 58 commitments finalized by the end of this year's CGI America meeting, CGI staff is working with participants on the development of 75 incremental commitments. CGI University · Based on your feedback, we are moving forward with holding CGI U 2013 at Washington University in St. Louis and are negotiating documentation with university leadership. We expect to be able to announce the location publicly before Labor Day. CommitmentsUpdate · CGI has solicited progress reports from 1,530 commitment makers this year. To date, we have received status updates for 772 commitments, which exceeds the number received last year (648). Hiring Update · As you know, to support CGI’s enhanced year-round engagement activities, we have been hiring additional staff.
