Morgan Chase. We are incredibly grateful for her years of dedication, hard work, effective leadership and sense of humor. Debbie has been part of American Progress from the very early days, helping build its infrastructure and establishing a legal team that protects CAP without hindering its programmatic goals. She has been a true team player, filling many roles as needed over the years. Few have worked as hard to make CAP the place it is and I will miss her spirit as well as her counsel. I am pleased to announce that Alex DeMots will be leading the legal team as our new General Counsel. Alex has served as in-house counsel at American Progress for more than seven years, and as VP and Deputy General Counsel since 2011. During that time he has been an effective leader, helping to guide the legal team with excellent problem solving skills, and working with American Progress staff to ensure legal compliance in all manner of activities. He has been particularly effective in guiding us with judiciousness as the world of nonprofits and electoral activities has been radically altered. I know he will make a strong General Counsel. In addition to his years of experience at American Progress, he served as counsel to Chairman Robert D. Lenhard at the Federal Election Commission and spent two years as an associate with Trister, Ross, Schadler & Gold, specializing in advising nonprofit organizations on the full range of issues relevant to them. Alex is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and the University of Michigan. I am recommending that the board appoint Alex as the new Corporate Secretary effective April 20, 2015. As described above, he has a wealth of experience in legal matters impacting tax exempt organizations, including best practices in governance, and he has already worked side by side with Debbie during his tenure here on these issues.
