Even rough hand sketch better than words for me

One other thought. I feel the eastern side that faces St. John should sit on a stone base like a fortress, even if we have a
lower floor. It will give the appropriate feel to the base of the building, which will sit on top. I will push it further away
from the pool. I was just trying to reduce wall height. I will send a revised site plan and elevations next week.

I thought we were eliminating the privacy wall and doing the screening with landscaping. What about a light structure
like a vertical trellis with plants on it to form the back drop for the courtyard? We can also put palms in front of it on the
courtyard side. If you do two floors, what do you want to put on the lower level? The primary area to incorporate a
lower level is under the terraces facing St. John. The main part of the building sits mostly on grade. The terrace is
between 12 — 14 feet wide, but we can make it wider.

i think that without rough elevations it means little to me. no reason not to have two floors instead of a
wall? for example. i need to see rough to see how crowded the pool area will fee. in addition the problem
of the privacey wall / divider is still not done and must be part of the overall redo

Jeffrey,
Attached is the site plan that incorporates the new topographic information. It also shows a slight revision in the
bathroom on the south side based upon our recent discussions. The bathroom will be at the same level as the pool
deck and we have pushed it back to reduce the height of the base wall. The tallest wall we have now is 14 feet. We
have moved the entire building further west to accomplish this. Our design approach is to have the building sit on an
elevated platform similar to a temple. The existing sculpture on the eastern end will be incorporated into the platform
as well as two other potential sculpture sites lining up with the palms. We have also looked at the possibility
incorporating some large urns at those locations in lieu of sculptures. On the western side, we have developed two
planting areas with palms and shrubs to screen the pool visibly from the main part of the house. This will require us
having to remove the existing stone seat. The eastern side will include a 12 feet wide terrace facing St. John. I feel we
now have a solution that successfully merges the formality of the existing courtyard and pool area within the confines
of the existing topography.
