She will be actively campaigning in several battleground states talking to female voters. LAURA SCHWARZ: Well I think they'll be very receptive to Carly Fiorina, she's an incredible woman . . . she has great respect in the community and I think she's a terrific asset for John McCain but I think it's an overestimation of this angry woman electorate for Hillary Clinton. Now there's no doubt that white women are very important and I say that because George Bush won because of them in 2000 and 2004. Women make up about 54% of the electorate but since Hillary pulled out of the race, Barack Obama has their support by 61% to 19and as we've seen in the last two weeks he went up from 5 points a head among women to 13 to 19 points ahead you know, with women . . . there's not a choice between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton anymore it's between Barack Obama and John McCain. Two very different records, two very different choices going into the general. NOVOTNY: Let's look at where John McCain stands on some key issues. He wants to overturn Roe V. Wade. He skipped a vote on a bill that would make it easier for women to sue for equal pay. Voted against requiring health care plans to cover birth control. Voted to terminate the Federal Family Planning Program that provides breast cancer screenings. How is he planning to sell himself to women on these issues that are so important? RON THOMAS: . . .what you see with female voters in particular is that they are not single issue voters. If you look at the top three issues that women say are important to them, they are the economy, the war in Iraq and healthcare. And all three of those issues Sen. McCain is very, very strong on. So I think the key for Sen. McCain is to focus on these three issues, to build that thread and build that bridge and listen, I'm a wholistic candidate, I'm just not a one single issue candidate and when he does his stump speeches to incorporate women into these speeches, into his appearances. To draw them more into actually his position and those top three issues are what Sen. McCain is very, very strong on.
