Ms. Maxwell:
We need to finish the conversation we've repeatedly attempted and I've made
ill attempts at trying to communicate by email.
Obviously I was at a loss Friday after being "reprimanded". Quite frankly,
believe it or not, I've NEVER-NEVER been reprimanded by my boss. I have
always been approached as part of the solution and never part of the
problem. I don't ever want to be put in that position again!
I'm clear on Mr. E's goals and they are barely attainable with your help. I
simply can't lose any big chunks of time this week. As you know, I share his
frustrations but see a light at the end of this tunnel when we have a "real"
office and quality time together. However the limitations we've been inching
our way through are not a consideration and he expects results by Friday.
Rather than simply following your instruction without question we need to
agree that I have to be more aggressive and give you enough
information/facts to make informed decisions. For example, I allowed (and I
do mean "I") you to burn over 4 hours of the time I was to spend with John
working on the manual because you clearly stated when we had computer
problems that you wanted the construction pictures emailed regardless rather
than FedEx...you didn't want any further discussion... This is a prime
example of us not yet establishing strong/open communication or you simply
having the confidence in me to defer to my judgment. Your approach with me
must differ from that with the staff for us to be an effective team...I need
to understand to direct others.
I've done further work on the "manual" and will be ready for your impute or
John's late Monday. Please let me know if you want to work on it or if I
need to schedule time with John. I plan to work with • Monday to
understand the Leah fiasco and put a procedure in place for future
purchases. I'll discuss this with you also.
August is going to be difficult without secretarial support, I have some
ideas to discuss with you.
I agree that and I won't be productive at 65th until the technology is
up and running. I can certainly work from Madison Avenue and appreciate your
trying to move me from 301 however it's not productive at this time.
Besides being disruptive at Madison Ave. I don't have access to the
necessary technology. Neither computer is connected to the color printer
and my profile is not on computer nor are all my files which are
currently in the C drive of the laptop. Additionally, well over an hour of

the day (total) is wasted in commute time to say nothing of the time it
takes to pack/unpack and reorganize.
We could certainly benefit from an additional cell phone. I'm passing the
one phone line between the fax and computer. It's a big deal to add a
temporary phone line or road runner to this apartment (3F) and isn't
realistic to spend the time considering we're moving to 65th soon and I'll
be going to 7J.
Don't forget, we also have two apartments @ 301 being renovated which we are
overseeing. I burned over 4 hours yesterday working on cable issues and
don't have roadrunner or the new connections that will be required in all
the units in the next 30 days. (however lots of progress is being made in
many areas on the renovations)
Working from 301 is difficult at best and I've spent the last two months
coping however I see it as the best option we have at this point given the
supervision of the renovation and nearing the use of 65th. I was really
hoping to move to 65h Street this week.
The bottom line is: I cannot succeed without you. You stated Friday that you
want this to work. However I clearly understand, it will be more burden and
work for you initially to teach someone all this but you need to decide if
I'm the person you want to invest that time/trust into... If not, I'll
respect your decision, organize everything I've done to date and part
amiably.
By the way, another first: I've never had a meeting with my boss sitting on
the floor of her bathroom...(At least this "first" is funny).
I was at Tepper Saturday. We didn't stay more than an hour and only saw one
of your items sell...the pair of iron bases brought $500.(estimate
$300-$400). Most of the items I saw sold seemed to be going near the
estimates they listed.
Please let me know if you see any problem with us working from 301 until
65th is ready and if you have a cell we can use. Thanks.
