From: "Lamster, Ira B." To: "jeffrey E." <[email protected]> Subject: RE: Need your help Date: Tue, 10 Jan 2017 20:07:13 +0000 Hi, Latest development, as we are working on the issue of transfer right now...it appears that Columbia will NOT release any remaining funds in the gift account, because as you recall the check was written to Columbia University. That was required so that the contribution could be considered by you as a charitable contribution. I am sorry to bother you with all this, but this outcome does not surprise me. This is just not right, since the money was donated for my work. However, universities never like to part with funds. Ira Ira B. Lamster D.D.S., M.M.Sc. However, since Columbia may allow this account to be transferred to Stony Brook, I am trying to shift some expenses from this gift account to another account that I now control but that Columbia will not release, so I may be more. Since leaving the dental school, I have been at the Mailman School of Public Health, which has been a terrific experience. As you recall, you were kind enough to provide me with an unrestricted gift when I began my work at the School of Public Health. This support was invaluable, and contributed to advancing discussion about the future of the dental profession, and the importance of oral findings in persons with diabetes mellitus. This resulted in the publication of 1 book, 2 monographs, 2 other book chapters and numerous papers in refereed journals. After 28 years, however, I have decided to leave Columbia and explore some other opportunities. I will be taking a part-time faculty appointment at the Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine, with a focus on developing their global oral health program. Here is my request: some of the money you provided will remain in my gift account at the end of June, when I will be leaving Columbia. I would like to move those funds to Stony Brook to support my work there, but need the permission of the donor, meaning you. If those funds are not moved, they will revert to Columbia. Please let me know if you agree to this request Thanks, and look forward to hearing from you. Ira Ira B. Lamster D.D.S., M.M.Sc.
