I have not yet discovered the ideal medication, but I think I am making =rogress on spending more time in a lucid state. Thank you for the =atience that you had with me so far. The underlying issue might be related to my inability to obey. There is = misunderstanding buried in my mind that obedience requires letting =thers make your decisions, which compromises integrity. Disobedience =ollows from the assumption that other people have less of a chance of =nowing what they are doing than yourself. Unfortunately, a reasonably =mart child with parents that don't know what they are doing =oes not have much difficulty to find evidence in support of that =heory. Giving up autonomy feels impossibly hard. On the other hand, obedience naturally follows from the insight that =oing the right thing beats doing the thing one wants (which may not be =he right thing, i.e. work out as intended), and for any reasonably =omplex definition of "the right thing", there are going =o be people that have a better understanding of the issues than myself. =hus, obedience is not letting other people make my decisions, but the =ompetence to decide when other people's decisions are better =han mine. This does not only translate to interactions with other people, but also =ith myself. Instead of doing what I can recognize as being the right =hing (say, doing the first edition of my tax return as soon as I have =he documentation available and an open time slot), I am attempting to =ompromise between doing the right thing (i.e. what the world wants) and =he thing I want, which aims at being "good enough", and =s often insufficient. I find that a lucid state makes dealing with this =traightforward. Speaking of which: Should I continue to prod the highly competent =ichard Kahn for sitting down with me on resolving the tax issue, or =hould I find a tax expert in Cambridge? I am still significantly =orried that owing a large amount to the IRS without interacting with =hem is going to result in the sky falling down on me and my family, =hich represents a major distraction. Bests and thank you! Joscha EFTA_R1_01890035 EFTA02649980
