Click here Dear Jeffrey, This is to bring you up to date on last year's accomplishments and to give you an idea of what is planned for the year ahead. Last years mission to help survivors of typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines saw our Second Response team cultivate important relationships with many major disaster relief organizations including Save the Children, World Vision, Hope International and UNICEF. Our acting clinical director has since returned to Manila and is now working closely with the Ministries of Education and Health as well as a consortium of universities to build a National Resilience Center in the Philippines. Second Response EFTA00353213 will most likely be asked to return to oversee the psychological first aid component of their disaster preparedness program. Twice in the Spring and Summer of 2014 we staffed Community Emergency Response Trainings (CERT) in Goshen and Winsted, Connecticut. In September, we conducted a PLAYshop training at the Citizen Corps Annual Conference in Westbrook, Connecticut attended by 300 people and where I gave the keynote address in 2013. As a result of these local and international events, there have been more requests for advanced training from various agencies - both in our backyard and on the other side of the globe. We continue to work with local FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) officers, and are now in dialogue with the Red Cross and representatives of the Chilean and Indonesian governments. For later this year, we will soon initiate plans to expand trainings to the United Kingdom and Europe. We recently retained a Curriculum Development Specialist to expand and enrich our training modalities and are compiling a research and evaluative component under the guidance of a Boston-based university graduate school (to be announced soon). Our vision remains clear: • All children are empowered to recover their natural ability for joy and play in the weeks that follow a major disaster or traumatic event. Our mission is simple: • Educate emergency personnel and individuals engaged in disaster response to effectively reduce the incidences of post traumatic stress disorder in populations impacted by natural disasters and other traumatic events. And our approach is unique: • Deliver introductory and advanced PLAYshop training to build local skills and resilience to communities around the world. Before the Summer Solstice, we will conduct advanced trainings in other locations in the Northeast of the US followed by additional trainings in other parts of the US and abroad. By the fall of 2015, Second Response will have an entirely new website and outreach component which will allow us to be an even more visible participant in disaster preparedness education around the world. Of course, all of this requires funding from individuals, foundations and others. We are grateful for the support you have given in the past, and we sincerely hope you will consider continuing to underwrite our efforts now and in the future.
