Hi from Beijing. Our team is anxious to begin compiling links to =ideos of all the suggested interviewees, but prior we'd
like you t= decide which 13 shows to do (out of the 15) in the new structure.
We can Skype (short) so you can select the 13 shows? East coast m=rnings, my nights.
Alternatively, you can just tell me which 2 of t=e 15 episodes to cut - again attached and below (same) - and we'll=begin
getting the links.
All are enthusiasti= to go into production.
Warm regards,
Robert

RADICAL BREAKTHROUGHS - Episodes Revi=ion — 2018.01.06
Closer To Truth Episodes — R=vised Topics & Titles: Now begins with series intro/ove=view; it will include the most
compelling, startling ideas =f the series, both as a tease and in exemplifying the meaning of =A0Radical Breakthroughs.
This will be the episode we will p=omote and it will be the episode reviewed. Each episode seeks to prob= the nature of
reality and/or human sentience. (Episode topics a=d content need further development and will be modified during
produc=ion.) CUT Two (2) Episodes =A0 =C2 =A0
1. =A0What are Radical Breakthroughs?

How is "current belief =80 challenged in science? Does a challenge or change in physics di=fer from, say, a challenge or
change in psychology? How do =80 paradigms" work? Is science ever relative, conditioned b= conventional wisdom or
the prevailing culture? We examine chal=enges to 'current belief.
2. How is=Mathematics Truth?
Overview of math - excitement, scope, meani=g and foundations of mathematics.
3. What are Breakt=roughs in Mathematics?
Several math fields/sub-fields — fas=inating, surprising, radical (comprehensible)
4. =A0Why the 'Unreasonable Effectiveness of Mathematics'= How math explains physics, chemistry, biology,
psychology, ec=nomics, sociology
5. Why are Power Laws Powerful?
6. Can Mathematics Explain Biology?
Now incl=des 'replicability crisis' (in addition to what =99s in the preproduction book)
7. Why are Plants Str=nge?
8. What is 'Strong Emergence =99?
Can all, ultimately, be explained in terms of physics? Or =re there higher-level laws that are in principle impossible to
predic=, even from complete lower-level information?
9. =A0Why is Deception Common?
10. Can Mathematics E=plain Evolution?
Evolutionary Dynamics - Epstein program at Ha=vard. Not my expertise, but could well fit CU in general and Radical
=A0Breakthroughs in particular. Would you like to include?
1=. What are 'Predictive Brains' & '=xtended Minds'?
How do our brains represent the world?=How much do they rely on the world they represent? How might =98enlarging
the mind' expand what it means to be human?
12. Can 'Integrated Information Theory' Ex=lain Consciousness?
Quantifying and explaining consciousness (=iulio Tononi, Un of Wisconsin-Madison), plus supporters and critics. =adical,
controversial, science-based theory.
13.=C2 Does 'Top-Down Causation' Make Sense?
H=w does our mental life affect our physical world? By what mechanisms?=When we have self-organizing systems, can
explanations flow from the =omplex to the simple?
14. Can Music Probe Mentality?=C2 (cognition / emotion)

Jeffrey:
Since our productive call, I've given a g=od deal of thought to the series and the 13 episodes. I now have 15
episod=s, adding several new ones (while cutting several old ones), using th= test of 'breakthrough'.
As we discussed, the fir=t thing we must do is to finalize the 13 episodes.
Once we finalize=the 13 episodes, then our CTY team will go through and include links to ev=ry expert in every
episode (as you requested), prioritizing videos (Y=utube, etc). This will be part of the revised, complete Radical
Breakthrou=hs preproduction book.
Attached are my episode recommendations= As you see, I've added a series intro/overview; it will include t=e
most compelling, startling ideas of the whole series, both as a tea=e and in exemplifying the deep meaning of Radical
Breakthroughs.=C2 This will be the episode we will promote and it will be the episode r=viewed.
There are 15 episodes on the list, which means that w= need to cut two. For each of the episodes I put a one or
two line de=cription - except for the episodes that you suggested. Note that I added a= episode on your Evolutionary
Dynamics program at Harvard, if you wan= to include.
I've rewritten the title of each episode as a =uestion, closer to the actual format (though they will still evolve as
we =et into details).
So we need to get to 13 episodes by cutting = of the 15, and you need to sign off on the 13. Then we will go to
w=rk getting all the links.
If you want a short Skype to discuss= I'm 13 hours ahead in China, so your mornings (mystery nights) be=t.
Please confirm receipt.
Looking forward and warm re=ards,
Robert
