I know many of you are looking forward to starting your Memorial Day weekend so I won't get between that with a long report. Instead, here are the top FIVE highlights: 1) Our first Blast Email, a petition to Gov. Crist urging him to stand up to big developers that threaten the Everglades, has been a phenomenal success. The Email was sent to 9,500 Floridians. Forty Eight hours later, the results are as follows: a) 34.5% of recipients opened the Email (nationally, the non-profit organization open rate is 17.6%) b) 10.2% clicked on the take action link (national average click through rate is 3.8%) c) Just under 1,000 people have signed the petition so far (still climbing so go sign <http://www.progressflorida.org/SaveTheGlades> if you haven't!) d) We've generated 525 NEW sign-ups to our network. e) Less than 50 people unsubscribed. When you consider that no one knows (or should I say knew,) who we are, that our list was put together like Frankenstein and comprised entirely of people who didn't actively sign-up, we are very pleased with these results. (see attached report for more details on Email action performance) 2) On the earned media front, the launch of Progress Florida received great coverage from many of the state's largest daily newspapers' websites and blogs, including the Miami Herald, Orlando Sentinel, Tallahassee Democrat, and Daytona Beach News-Journal. Additionally, Capital News Service, which feeds TV stories to 10 local news stations across the state, did a package on our Everglades campaign. We know it ran on the Pensacola TV station and we are waiting for tracking reports to see where else it aired. On the radio front - Progress Florida was also featured in a long piece on WMNF public radio in Tampa Bay and Damien, Ray and I were all guests on a 30 minute radio talk show on Florida Progressive Radio, an internet radio station broadcasting statewide. Upcoming coverage on Progress Florida and our initial campaigns is expected to run in a weekend story in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel on ballot initiatives and possibly the St. Petersburg Times (kudos to Damien, our political director.) 3) Our Steering Committee and Senior Advisory Board at time of launch is already comprised of many of the top progressive movers and shakers in the state, including our indefatigable Chair - Alan Farago (who's quoted in today's NY Times on Everglades- yay.)
