Not much. I was able to get a small team to do some digging on motivations in crowd behavior and with a
special focus on sports, but not much turned up, aside from how poorly mapped it is. The history of football was
good to recount, in that in the middle ages whole villages would play each other and it could turn hostile, but
perhaps this actually diffused violence overall if it helped people settle petty scores and move on, rather for
grudges to fester into something more mutually destructive (thus keeping fit but saving energy for important
conflict). Similar things are seen in ritualized conflicts in animals, and one wonders how many ways this is
woven into common culture today in social conflicts expressed through the media, etc.
Overall, lots of soft emotional stuff, and probably hard to study from bottom up via complex motivations and
emotions but probably easier to understand via the evolution and design of mass entertainment and mass media.
Still, there is potential here....
