Clinton Foundation March 2, 2012 MAJOR DOMESTIC INITIATIVES Alliance for a Healthier Generation · The Alliance is working closely with Kaiser Permanente on a partnership to launch the Healthy Schools Program in their eight key markets. · Two articles on the impact of the Healthy Schools Program will appear in the March issue of the CDC's peer-reviewed journal, Preventing Chronic Disease. · The Alliance is working with the Clinton Presidential Center team in Little Rock to host a pre-screening of a new HBO documentary, Weight of the Nation, on May 2. MAJOR INTERNATIONAL INITIATIVES Clinton Development Initiative Malawi · The President of AGRA, Dr. Namanga Ngongi, is in Malawi this week and is visiting with smallholder farmers who are partners in the Anchor Farm Project. Dr. Ngongi will have a full update on the progress to date of the commercial farming and smallholder operations and will hear from smallholders on the specific impacts the project is having on their livelihoods. · CDI is finalizing a small volume sale of carbon credits through a Carbon Trade Exchange buyer. The buyer has a record of making regular purchases, so it is promising that the buyer is interested in and has begun buying credits from CDI's project. Rwanda (CHDI) · Following the groundbreaking of Mt. Meru Soyco Ltd., construction has begun on the ground, including drilling a bore hole, excavating the boundary wall, cleaning and leveling the site, mobilizing the civil contractor team, and getting all necessary documents in order. · With regards to the AGRA project, the current harvesting work is being finalized and preparations are underway for the next season. Farmers are mobilized and seeds are now available. · On February 8, the transfer of the government land in the name of RFCC was approved. With that resolution, the CHDI team can now apply for a construction permit. CHDI is moving forward with the next steps in this regard. Clinton Giustra Sustainable Growth Initiative Mexico · A Ganar, the pilot project that CGSGI participates in with Fundación Carlos Slim in Chihuahua, Mexico, will have its first graduation on March 8. At the event, 301 youth from the first phase of the project will graduate. A Ganar - which means "to win" and "to earn" in Spanish - utilizes soccer and other team sports to help youth age 16-24 re-enter the formal education system, and learn the entrepreneurial skills necessary to enter the workforce in the future. To date, 528 youth have enrolled, 72 job placements have been made (as nursing assistants, administrative assistants and junior chefs), and 41 have gone back to school. · The goal of this multinational program, supported by the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Clinton Giustra Sustainable Growth Initiative, Fundación Carlos Slim, the PepsiCo Foundation of Mexico, and other donors, is to combat youth unemployment through the application of an integrated job training program, transforming lessons and skills developed through sports into marketable job skills. Haiti · The Haiti Development Fund is now under CGSGI management. This will allow synergies in processes and sharing best practices with the Colombian fund, Fondo Acceso. Clinton Global Initiative Membership/Sponsorship · NRG Energy, Duke Energy, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina have all renewed their CGI sponsorship at the $350,000 level for the 2012 Annual Meeting. Procter & Gamble has also renewed its CGI sponsorship for $500,000 for both 2012 and 2013. · CGI currently has 208 paying members for 2012. As was previously reported, a change in the methodology by which members are renewed makes year-to-year comparisons difficult. Nonetheless, the current renewal rate is 6 percent higher at this time than last year, although we are running slightly behind on new member registrants (-7). CGI Winter Meeting · The CGI Winter Meeting will be held March 15th at the Sheraton Hotel in New York City. · The plenary panelists include: o Ashley Judd, board member, Population Services International o M.
