His campaign actually found themselves detouring into the real world into the driveway of Joe the Plumber. Now Joe didn't ask for Barack Obama to come to his house and he sure didn't ask to be famous and he sure didn't ask for the political attacks-- You know Joes dream is to own a small business that will create jobs and the – attacks on small business all over this nation. We need to help small business and not raise their taxes. The Obama tax hike is just what Joe had on his mind. To get a real answer and not just another talking point. We've finally learned Senator Obama's economic goal is, as he told Joe, Barack Obama wants to spread the wealth around. * In other words Joe and guys like him will earn the wealth, Barack and politicians like him will spread it. * Joe didn't really like that idea much nor did people that believe their earnings are their own. B*efore government can spread the wealth they have to confiscate it from those that earned it* and whatever the right word is for that, the redistribution of wealth is *that last thing America needs right now. * In these tough economic times we don't need government spreading the wealth, we need policies that create wealth and spread opportunity. Now it was a candid moment for Obama, the worst missteps come when a candidate says what he really thinks, we've seen this before, *we've seen this before. in a debate with Clinton he was asked why on earth he wanted to raise capital gains taxes when history shows cutting that tax actually yielded more revenue. *rates were cut in clinton yrs and bush yrs, revenue went up. My opponents answer is that taxes had to be raised "as a matter of fairness." Now that's look at that very carefully *here we have a case where increased taxes would decrease the funds available but Obama demands a tax hike as a principle and the principle seems to be redistribution of wealth as end in itself. apparently, as my opponent sees it, there is a strict limit to what you can earn and its for politicians to decide. proper amount of wealth not what you earn, but what govt will let you keep. * * * my opponent has spoken of reluctance of citizens and business owners to part w/ earnings. he understands that when its time to spread the wealth around, theyre not gonna give up those profits easily. *readers of The Audacity of Hope might recall he wrote about the need to spread the wealth around there too. he writes of the need for labor and tax laws that restore some balance to the distribution of nations welath. * * * *he's talked elsewhere that the distrib of welath is even more skewed and inequities are higher. what are really skewed are my opponents priorities. he talks about economy in detached and academic way. *1 thing academics are good at is inventing and redefining terms, and thats what hes doing w/ his promsie of a phony tax cut. This explains some big problems with my opponent's claim that he will cut income taxes for 95 percent of Americans. You might ask: How do you cut income taxes for 95 percent of Americans, when more than 40 percent pay no income taxes right now? How do you reduce the number zero? Well, that's the key to Barack Obama's whole plan: Since you can't reduce income taxes on those who pay zero, the government will write them all checks called a tax credit. And the Treasury will have to cover those checks by taxing other people, including a lot of folks just like Joe. In other words, Barack Obama's plan to raise taxes on some in order to give checks to others is not a tax cut; it's just another government giveaway. which we certainly dont need right now. what should really worry us is that obama cant possibly spend all the money he promises to spend without raising taxes even more than he admits or digging us furhter into debt, weakening the debt and weakening the dollar making everything more expensive to buy. he has promised nearly $1T in spenidng. he talks about investing in energy for america. his plan doesnt have much to do w/ actual production from existing energy sources like offshore drilling and nucl pwr. in debate, i lauded obama's eloquence but you need to pay attn to words. he said he would consider, we need to drill offshore and drill now. and we need nucl. obama's plans requires $150B in new fed spending over next 10 yrs. for infrastructure, he's promised another $60B. for the dept of educ, another $72B over 4 yrs. the list goes on. $10B here, $20B there. until finally fed. health care program. by obama's own acct, will cost $150B/ yr. he says he'll cut income taxes for 95% americans incl. miraculous amount who arent paying any right now. then he commits to nealry $1T in new fed spending after voting for $700b rescue pkg earlier this month. he wont even specify program he'll cut. ill take a cleaver and ill take a meat-ax and a scalpel and we'll stop this out of control spending. so, you put all these plans togehter = $2T in new spending to which obama committed w/ no expl. how to pay for it. does he thinks anyone will seriously believe that these trillions of $$ will come from only the very highest income earners. even his supporters are skeptical, e.g. Sen. We're going to double the child deduction for every family. We will cut the capital gains tax. we'll end taxes on unempl. benefits. And we will cut business taxes to help create jobs, and keep American businesses in America. As Joe has now reminded us all, America didn't become the greatest nation on earth by giving our money to the government to "spread the wealth around." In this country, we believe in spreading opportunity, for those who need jobs and those who create them. And that is exactly what I intend to do as President of the United States. this is the choice we face. hard times. 2 wars. The next President won't have time to get used to the office. he cant invite testing from the world. he will have to act immediately. we cant spend next 4 yrs as we have the last 8, hoping for our luck to change. as i said at last debate, im not GWB. if obama wanted to run against him, should have done it 4 yrs ago. we need a new direction now and we have to fight for it. we need a fighter, someone who will put all card on table.
