Dear Mrs. de Jongh,
I want to thank you once again for your generous scholarship donation of $5,000 to JSA. Your
support has enabled youth from the Virgin Islands to participate in a high quality civic education
program that would otherwise not have been available for them. These youth have had the
opportunity to engage in high-level debates, participate in college level courses and experience
the thrill and excitement of college lives in the US.
Our mission is "to strengthen American democracy by educating and preparing high school
students for life-long involvement and responsible leadership in our society." Our goal is to
help students expand their horizons, find their voice, develop an understanding of the world
around them, learn about statesmanship, and most importantly, learn and develop strategies
that will enable them to make a positive impact on our society. At the core, students explore
diverse viewpoints, approach problems and decisions from multiple viewpoints, recognize and
question both others and their own assumptions, develop a capacity for empathy, engage with
others, and prepare for the future.
On behalf of the staff, board of directors, and students, we thank you again for making a
difference in the lives of youth from the Virgin Islands and the well being of our community.
Sincerely,
Mitchell G. REitnIan, MSW
