Over the past several weeks, the talk of war with Iran has severely ratcheted up. While the media continues to debate the likelihood of a potential Israeli military strike against Iran, the Israeli political leadership increasingly shows signs of preparing for war. Meanwhile, Iran has declared that it will view any attack as the joint work of the U.S. and Israel and respond against both, almost ensuring a broader military conflict. Here at home we have become increasingly concerned that Members of Congress, indeed many previously strong allies, are either unwilling to speak out against war or fear doing so because of a perceived lack of support from their constituents. And while all of this goes on, we remain dangerously close to an inadvertent war with Iran, a reality brought home by U.S. naval accidents this summer in the Persian Gulf. Iran poses serious challenges for the United States and Israel that must be dealt with, but military action and war will only increase these challenges at a dramatic cost. *It's time to tell Congress that we must prevent a war with Iran. That is why we're asking like-minded organizations to take part in a coordinated action, sending calls and messages to Congress on September 19-20th. * Members of Congress need to hear from their constituents who know that while we all want to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, military action is not the answer.
