Am exploring a visit. I'd also like to set up the vive I got you.
Gino
Ps. See the below from a friend.
Yesterday I did a fireside chat at a conference. And while I'm sitting here on my flight home, thought I would
share some of the content and how it relates to a couple of thoughts about the consumer technology world, and
hope one of your lovely minds can help me refine them. Long flight, long post.
What I shared was the emergence of a new operating system for mankind that could be characterized as
Collaborative Non-Conformity, a global affinity and dependence on diversity, and see it as the simple confluence
of increasing worldwide connectivity through technology and growing individual accountability across our
communities. In other words, public and referenceable identities and experiences, and access to more tools than
ever that allow us to communicate, trade, self-publish and provide feedback on those identities and experiences.
I see this as an opportunity to witness a practical participatory economy take shape, with a generation of
empowered individuals operating outside the shadows creating a new framework for humanity to amplify and
celebrate our differences on this beautiful playground of spaceship Earth, and perhaps beyond. To be respectful
of nature as they lay the Fabric of Wisdom on the Information Age. But, it could also go the other way (I will
mention without caution on that below).
//What is happening?//
While our generation and the ones before us began our lives building friendships and finding our tribes in
physical space, our children, or Generation (N)ow as I call them, are starting their lives and finding their tribes in
digital space. They find like-mindedness earlier, and find them from a larger pool. As a generation, this
empowers them to embrace their uniqueness more than ever before possible, at a younger age than ever before.
Gen N are also entering this world with a keener awareness of being part of a connected species. Up until now,
we have each come into this world concerned primarily with our navigable physical space. As we have become
more connected, our voices travel further and our information comes from across the world, through channels we
have curated for ourselves (the age of mass media is increasingly behind us). Generation Z is the last transition
generation. After them, a majority of souls coming into physicality will grow up primarily communicating,
exchanging ideas, and forging relationships with others beyond geographical or nationalistic boundaries.
While we have lived and built mostly physical lives and sought to bring expressions of them online, Gen N are
beginning their time on Earth with digital identities, with corporations and governments charting their growth
and experiences without their conscious choice to have it be so. Their new battle is not primarily for money but
instead more social relevance and credibility in the form of an audience and owned digital content. Oh the stress!
As this digital shift brings our identities online, Gen N are developing a global accountability of their actions, as
everything is increasingly digitized and stored (Internet of Things, ubiquitous sensors, etc).
They are also starting to have access to a global hive mind to look to for solutions, as we each become

publishers, and crowdsourced data feeds into the variety of machine learning algorithms and A.I. projects that
seek to answer our health, economic and scientific questions.
//Where must we invest? - Building trust in an untrustworthy world//
Is our obligation and burden to build and leave tools and structures that we think support Generation N's ability
to thrive in this seemingly complex world they are coming into? No! That's obnoxious to think we know what's
best for them. Our obligation is to watch them, and learn from them. Allow them space to build trust with one
another. This is a generation that will lead us into a collective living environment that is conscious and tolerant as
long as we don't hold them hostage to our old ways of thinking about our definitions of personal and collective
success!
What we should invest in and conserve are spaces for them to play within and between tribes, to explore the
connectivity with each other and nature and the self-actualization they will inevitably confront. Because we are
humans, and we are physical. Until we can mimic a completely realistic physical environment in virtual space
(hrmm... but worth trying), they need real places to commune and celebrate their digital tribes. They are already
asking for this. Look at the rise in meetup culture and festival culture and youth conferences all across the planet.
They are already looking for their playgrounds to meet with their digital communities that share the same
appreciation for music, art, science, nature and everything else (scarily even VidCon). I'm looking actively to
support the creation and protection of these spaces and events.
They will seek out places to live together. Aggregated not by our old world notions of what matters, tied often to
productivity and economics (fuck co-working), but instead aggregated by shared ideals and co-creation and
collaboration. There are already trends in that direction, with the rise in startups facilitating co-living
communities. Our children's new living communities will not be selected based on how close it is to the subway,
or ranked school or fancy postcode. Physical distance will become less relevant with self driving and virtual
work environments. Education is increasingly moving away from a physical school as a prerequisite for success.
Our children seek not to be rooted in the notion of ownership, but to be free to collaboratively consume and to
uproot as they grow through experiences in life, and explore new experiences that they can add to their repertoire
of recorded life stories. All this in a bid to demonstrate their uniqueness while still always having common
ground with the others around them. They are looking for physical and social vibrancy at a stone's throw, tied
through shared curiosity and dynamic co-creation. Their families will be built through a different set of lenses
from ours, and we should learn from them, perhaps no longer centered around isolation and bloodlines but
through connection and shared values. What is the new Olive Tree? Let's let them show us.
Our children will fall in love across national borders... more than ever before... we will have to solve for
immigration. They aren't looking to put their trust in faceless corporations and governments that control where
they can go and who they can talk to. They want freedom from the platforms that are manipulating their actions
based on a conflicting need to satisfy advertisers. They are looking for transparency, portability and true
participatory politics. And as they find themselves, they find their voices and as they share those voices, new
nations will be built in those digital spaces, no longer with lines etched in Mother Earth. This is an activist
generation, unafraid of voicing their distaste with the old world, but as yet without the leverage to effect systemic
change. Just you wait. The areas of investment related to the blockchain, where we can now fathom new systems
of trust and transparency and measures of value separate from fiat currency are already being screamed for by
some in our generation. When Generation N begin to take over the technological tools, we will see an explosion
of innovation related to the opportunities these technologies create. It's already happening. We already see the
old world seek advertising dollars not from businesses that just want to sell products, but increasingly from
businesses that see the opportunity in selling experiences. The new engagement metrics to look for are now
different from the old world of DAUs and MAUs. Let's not lock our children's faces to screens for the sake of it.
While many talk about software eating the world, I choose to put stock in software (specially static scale out
logic systems) becoming irrelevant. That instead data eats the world. An ever growing store of human knowlege
and individual experiences. The opportunities will no longer be in building software platforms, because the
world is moving away from ubiquitous software. We used to design for interoperability. Software that could be

put on multiple touchscreens from multiple vendors. But as we live out the trend of tighter software and
hardware coupling and personalization (advanced 3D printing) we will increasingly ditch our smartphones the
same way we ditched our keyboard and mouses, and we will surround ourselves with personalized hardware that
is always on, always connected, always listening and always informing. And these hardware pieces will have
software designed just for them. They will plug into a common set of data stores. And while we may see some AI
and ML algorithms at scale, those opportunities will pale in comparison to the value of immutable, accessible
and responsible data stores for our and our children's data. In the future of work, teams will be formed
dynamically, comprised of various experts who have honed their craft and knowledge within their own
communities, coming together in diversity to build in unity. Value will come from providing Gen Z with insights
rather than info.
These are now opportunities to pursue globally. China has shown they can outinovate on hardware (look at DJI),
and as we move towards closer coupling of HW/SW systems, and more ubiquitous connected devices, the
innovation will come from the actual builders of these products and methods of collaboration and not all will
reside within the US. Even more so as it relates to physical spaces, events and communities. I see the vast
number of opportunities all around the world and through Binary I am pursuing them aggressively. Help. Let's
support more together.
These opportunities are likely not to be found thriving where regulations are still built by leaders and populations
that fear change and have built systems to safeguard the worldview of the zero sum game of a hoarding and
accumulation mentality. A system that thrives on flow is unlikely to spring up where flow is blocked by
individuals and groups in current positions of power that strive to hold on to that power. The business model for
government is broken, accelerated by rise in automation and robotics. If they can't tax output tied to land, what
will they attempt next? A new system that is consciously connected and that encourages flow also encourages the
surrender of power, and assumption of it only when called on to do so. The smart, mission driven entrepreneurs
will go where they can thrive.
We are each individual neurons of humanity. And now we are able to fire synapses across the whole. Where
tribes of the past existed as a utility to safeguard our physical genes, the tribes of our future exist as a utility to
evolve our minds and consciousness. While we are physically separate, our souls yearn to be of one mind. That
is our design.
As I stated earlier, there are also several cautions in this shift. If we build these busineses with too much
dependency on the systems of old, we may plunge our children into a far scarier dystopian future. If we do not
turn our voices into action in liberating our data from the systems of old, or if we give in to the petty products
that are designed to distract us from discovering our individual gifts by focusing on our need for ego validation,
we run the risk of placing the power of these new technologies in the hands of institutions that are designed to
aggregate rather than distribute. To hoard and build stagnation instead of give and encourage energy flows.
We have a moral obligation to build a future that our children want, not one that we want for ourselves or for
them. We should hand them our stories, and hand them new tools, good tools, many tools. And watch them build.
Our beliefs will not be their beliefs. They should not be. They should be free to decide what those are for
themselves. And now they have some of the tools to do so collectively. Let's not fuck it up for them
I kinda thought it appropriate to copy a little paragraph I wrote last weekend while I was watching the setting sun
as my family was enjoying some cheese and crackers downstairs, intended for my team but since we are all in
this together, I figure that's all of you too.
"This is not a manifesto. You, who are reading this already know the truth of non-truths: totality is defined by
everything in absence, and we are all part of the same. In that, we accept all things as they are, yet understand
what they could be for now and beyond.

Our focus is on the human species, and the action drivers that exist on the spectrum of fear and love, which bears
stating are not in opposition. As of 2017, human actions at the individual and tribal levels have had primary
motivations closer to the fear-driven end of the spectrum. This includes the fear of scarcity (of time, resources,
knowledge), fear of insignificance (of life purpose, actions, emotions), fear of separation (from empathy, growth,
emotions).
The current dominant world system has developed from an amplification of fear driven actions.
A new emergent world system will amplify love driven actions, and be an alternative to the current system. They
will necessarily operate in parallel till the energy transfer is complete. If it becomes complete.
The technological age as we have come to call it is a powerful force for this, including digital technology such as
the Internet and AI, as well as practiceable and organic technologies such as meditation, phenethylamines and
tryptamines. These technologies enable connectivity to occur outside of physical space. They usher in a new age
of coalescence and coordination, core components of what is needed for us to bring about a new emergent world.
Our responsibility is to design or invest in the components that bring this connectivity to more people. Let's
continue to support the good work our network is doing."
