"Gadgetoff: the craziest, classiest, most hyper-active gathering of geekery ever, and officially the new
single must-attend event..." - Seth PoTes, Popular Mechanics
To the more than 400 participants in the latest Gadgetoff: thanks for making this a spectacular and memorable
celebration! (And, to our friends who missed it, shame on you!)
Gadgetoff 2009 was held in New York City on September 25th, 2009, at the Snug Harbor Cultural Center. The invitation-
only event was totally over-subscribed and the reviews were unanimous: "Best Gadgetoff Ever!" Participants shared a
mind-boggling array of devices, machines, illusions, inventions, rockets, radar, magic, mayhem and literally showed tons
of the latest technological marvels.
The gorgeous day began with our traditional ferry ride from Manhattan to a majestic venue along the shores of New York
Harbor. In the Greek Revival Music Hall scores of dynamic and mesmerizing presenters enchanted fellow participants.
Stage demonstrations featured cameras that shoot around corners, survive bomb-blasts, and capture bullets in mid-flight; to
stews of new robots; bewildering optical and "magical" illusions; to other technologies that change how we explore the
earth.
The audience was strafed by a model plane made of garbage; observed robo-mechanical flies visible only under a
microscope; and enjoyed human-cyborg Steve Mann's virtuouso hydraulophone concert. Dean Kamen showed the latest
developments of the miraculous artificial limb he designed while Juan Enriquez revealed how efforts to harness "artificial
life" are beginning to radically transform the future of energy... and so much more!
No Gadgetoff would be complete without a monster trebuchet flinging Lenovo laptops taped to pumpkins• two different
rocket-powered carnival rides; while the Mondo Spider vehicle crunched through the crowd. Other vehicles included a
state-of-the art Doppler-on-Wheels tornado chaser truck; the "Stealth Vehicle'; and a backscatter-xray truck that "sees
through" other vehicles. Participants were mesmerized in Panasonic's 3D truck (premiered at Gadgetoff) and blown away
by Al Seckel's mind-bending optical illusion emporium.
Inside the Great Hall, more than 60 presenters unveiled new toys, threat-detection systems, scientific marvels, and visual
and auditory delights. Robots of all forms filled the room while the world's top technology innovators enthralled us with
their insights. Hackers teased security analysts; magicians bewildered mathematicians and musicians; and inventors and
designers ("children of all ages") delighted each other in visions of the future. Gadgetoff 09 was truly an international
event: participants came from France, Israel, Turkey, Australia, Canada, and dozens of other countries to share their work.

The evening concluded with light and music experiences... two gigantic Tesla coils... plus a trip to the magnificent
Chinese Garden... followed by distribution of more than 5 tons of GadgetBags... and the ferry back to Manhattan.
We will be posting video, photos, and more detailed descriptions about our latest Gadgetoff shortly. If you have
blogs, tweets, photographs, videos, or reminiscences you wish to share, please let us know!
We are very grateful to all our friends who contributed so much of their time, energy, vision, finances, and expertise to
make this Gadgetoff the tremendous success it was. We thank all of you who participated and made the event magical. We
are incredibly grateful to Lenovo, Best Buy, Nokia, Lime Brokerage, DataPipe, iRobot, WarrenZ Productions,
Dotcom Distribution, Think Geek and our anonymous friends for their sponsorship.
Thank you for your generous participation and we look forward to sharing your memories of this event! We are already
planning for our next event, and we appreciate your collaboration to make Gadgetoff 2010 even more outrageous, exciting,
and fun!
Best regards,
Dan and Mike Dubno
