David —
Hello from Seattle.
We are coming close to completing the paperwork for your general operating support grant.
To this end, can you please tell me who should be the signatory on the grant agreement? Andrea or Mr. Rod-Larsen.
And with regard to the second project support grant, can you please let me know which of the following dates/times work
best for your assembled team to have a phone call:
• Tuesday, October 20th 2:00-3:30pm PST/Seattle
• Tuesday, November 5th 1:00-2:30pm/Seattle
• Wednesday, November 6th 2:30-4:00pm/Seattle
My apologies that these times are not very convenient for you all in NYC and Vienna. I had a terrible time finding dates
that worked for the various members of the polio team who need to be on the call. Options were very few-and-far
between.
If none of these dates/times work, please do let me know and we can look further into November. If you have dates that
work better for you, by all means suggest them.
Thank you,
Amy

Dear David —
EFTA00973921
Thank you very much for this accounting. We appreciate it.
We are finalizing the paperwork on your General Operating support request; thank you for your patience.
Toward ascertaining the structure and composition of the second, project support grant, I expect to be in touch
next week with a series of proposed dates for a conference call. I'll look forward to sharing those with you and
the hope that at least one of them will work for all of us! Scheduling is always the hardest part.
Until then,
Amy

Subject: IPI polio expenses
Dear Amy:
We received and paid last week the final consulting invoices in order to complete the attached report, as requested, of IPI
expenses to date on polio eradication. The total of approximately $81,500 represents direct expenses only (excluding IPI
staffing and overhead).
Please let me know if there's anything further we can provide at this time.
Best,
David

Dear Amy:
Thanks very much for your reply.
We look forward to hearing further from you on the request for general operating support; meanwhile, we continue to
work on the proposal for project funding and will await word from you on a conference call in the coming weeks to
discuss. I am also completing and will send shortly an itemization of expenses incurred to date on polio eradication, as
requested for the initial funding.

Subject: WI request for general operating support
Dear Amy:
I hope all is well with you.
Further to our meeting in Seattle and subsequent correspondence, please find attached our letter of request for general
operating support from the Gates Foundation.
I believe your latest recommendation was for general operating support of from $1.0 to $2.5 million over three years (Oct
2013—Sep 2016), and project support of from $2.5 to $4.0 million (depending on the previous) over one year (Jan-Dec
2014). We respectfully request the Foundation's consideration of a two-year, rather than three-year, term for the general
operating support — i.e., from Oct 2013 thru Sep 2015. We are confident of IPI's capacity to fully utilize the general
operating funds — as well as the anticipated project funding — over these requested periods, and we believe the two-year
term better aligns with the one-year term of project support.
You and Paul also requested a listing of IPI's expenses incurred to date on polio eradication. We are finalizing our
accounting of these and will provide an itemized report in the next day or two, if acceptable.
Please let us know of anything further you may require at this stage. Otherwise, we look forward to a conference call in
the coming weeks on the proposal for project funding that we're now hard at work on.
Many thanks for your kind support throughout this process.
