I know you prefer single life—my question is why? The Trustees seem to be leaning toward successive lives so I wanted
your input on why single life is preferable in your view.
Here is the dilemma that I have not yet communicated to the Trustees. Debra has the independent funds but may not
want to significantly deplete them with this planning technique. If Leon were to gift her additional funds to replace them,
that could be a problem (step transaction resulting in gift to Leon). Even if we wait a couple of years, until all
contributions to the townhouse are complete, I think we may have to keep the newly gifted funds segregated from her
"old and cold" independent funds. At least for a while.

Jeffrey,
The Trustees are still debating the single vs. successive life estates for the townhouse purchase. What are your
thoughts about preferring the single life estate?
