Attached is a ruling from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) with respect to the DOT
compliance for a nonconforming Mercedes 2002 SL Class (220). The ruling states that the vehicle generally
complies with US standards and needs a few changes. I highlighted the required changes in the attached ruling.
However, as far as Emissions Standard requirements the car will require an EPA sticker. This will require that the
catalytic converter has the same US part# and that the EGR System (exhaust circulation system) has the same
US parts#. (Note: some cars don't have an EGR system so there would be no conversion requirement).
Also, any previous changes made to the vehicle would have to be reviewed to determine whether they comply
with US standards.
