A window provides access to two of life's essentials, light a=d air, but it is more than just a means to an end.
Windows also hav= symbolic, expressive and architectural qualities that have for centuri=s inspired some of the world's
greatest artists.

Claude LAZAR
1947-, Alexandria, Egypt)
chttp://www.=ranklinbowlesgallery.com/Shared_Elements/ArtistPages/Claude/pages/lazar_hom=.html>
Claude Lazar was bo=n in Alexandria, but his family was expelled from Egypt in 1956 when the Su=z Canal was
nationalized. Even after settling in Paris, his family mo=ed around quite frequently. The empty rooms so prominent in
his=paintings speak of the nostalgia for leaving behind the walls, but empty rorms also hold the promise of a new life,
the excitement and the apprehension=in front of the unknown.
Claude Lazar has be=n painting for more than thirty years. He has a great deal of critica= and commercial success
exhibiting at the Grand Palais, the Pompidou Center= and the Museum of Modern Art in Paris. In 1976 he was honored
to represent=France in the Venice Biennale. Claude Lazar is an artist who sees painting a= leisure rather than work. He
will not succumb to the demands of a museum o= a gallery or to the whims of the market. He paints at his own pace
e=en if that means twelve or less paintings a year.
Franklin Bowles Galleries is proud to have exhibited the works of C=aude Lazar since 1996.
