Subject Roger
Am meeting with the Headmaster of Grandview Prep in Boca next Wednesday. She
implimented some ofRoger's ideas at her school, but had to back off. Talked on phone and
learned she believes in his concepts and wants to impliment them, but, Roger being Roger, he
put off several parents when they met him. I think we have a better chance of implimenting
Roger's concepts if two schools work together on it. First, you can impliment different parts at
different schools, work the bugs out, and still keep parents happy because much of the
curriculum remains realtively traditional. As it moves from concept to pratical reality, the
transformation of the instructional process can occur. Of course, Roger has little patience for
this, as he is convinced that any shortcomings (which he sees as relatively kw) are easily
overcome and that the superiority of his ideas will shine away any doubt. My idea allows for a
more gradual transition at each school, but for Roger, it gives him the ability to put into practice
much more of his concept. Second, 2 schools allow one to distract Roger when the other is
doing something and Roger is in the way. My assessment is Roger wants to be in charge of, and
receive credit for, everything. The credit part is fine with me; the in-charge part is where the
problems will arise. Therefore, each school can be the rodeo clown that distracts Roger when he
gets overly, and imusefully, involved with the other.
At any rate, I am unwilling to let Roger's personality put off the people who have the ability to
put his plans into action. Now, if we can just focus Roger on the practical aspects of designing
the nuts & bolts of the programs...as Shakespear would say, "Ah, there's the rub!"
