Also read about this year's Coachella Valley Day of Action<http://www.desertsun.com/story/news/health/2016/01/20/chelsea-clinton-day-of-action-la-quinta/78711028/>. Established and led by Chelsea Clinton, the Clinton Foundation Day of Action program has brought thousands of people together for volunteer projects across the country and world to help make a meaningful difference in the communities where we work, visit, and live.
"The Day of Action helps launch the summit. This year, Clinton and volunteers, including around 70 students, will work at La Quinta High School on Sunday building a greenhouse and community garden to be used by the school's culinary program. They'll also prepare around 150 meals for the Meals on Wheels program at the Joslyn Center in Palm Desert."
"We're looking for projects that are sustainable," said Rain Henderson, CEO of the Clinton Health Matters Initiative. "The Day of Action is a way to engage directly with communities, using service to kind of bridge the different focus areas of the Clinton Foundation."

An article today reports that CHMI will expand its Community Health Transformation efforts<http://www.galesburg.com/article/20160121/NEWS/160129920> to include Knox County, Illinois. CHMI works in target communities to specifically tailor "Blueprints for Action" that make tangible, positive changes for community health. Other communities include the Coachella Valley; Central Arkansas; Houston; Northeast Florida; and Adams County, Mississippi.

McDonalds offers healthier options through a CGI Commitment with Alliance for a Healthier Generation
On Tuesday, USA Today wrote about McDonald's progress on their CGI commitment<http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2016/01/19/mcdonalds-nears-sale-2-billion-servings-fruit-yogurt/79018448/> with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. McDonald's has reached almost two billion sales of fruit and yogurt sides in its Happy Meals.
"In 2013, McDonald's also made a formal commitment with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation at the annual meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative to take a series of steps to improve access of fruits and vegetables at its restaurants and help families make more informed choices about what they're ordering."
"Howell Wechsler, CEO of the Alliance, said reaching the 2 billion sales of fruit and yogurt to children is a significant milestone for the fast-food chain...'It's a tremendous opportunity to get kids, particularly low-income kids, used to whole fruits that perhaps they haven't been exposed to enough,' Wechsler said. 'We need to make lot more progress at getting kids eating whole fruits.'"

Eight Hult Prize entrepreneurs named to Forbes' "30 under 30" list
Each year, the CGI Annual Meeting hosts the final round of The Hult Prize, which challenges students around the world to develop startups that aim to solve some of the planet's greatest challenges. This year, Forbes named eight Hult Prize entrepreneurs to their annual "30 under 30" list. Read a Huffington Post piece<http://www.huffingtonpost.com/amanda-boyek/post_10894_b_9006554.html> about the prize and its recent milestones.
"Annual themed-challenges are set by President Bill Clinton, who this year has asked millennials to come up with innovative enterprises that double the income of ten million residents of crowded urban spaces."
'The Hult Prize is a wonderful example of the creative cooperation needed to build a world with shared opportunity, shared responsibility, and shared prosperity, and each year I look forward to seeing the many outstanding ideas the competition produces,' said Clinton, who hosts the final round of the Hult Prize at the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting, where the winning enterprise receives one million dollars in seed capital."
CGI U students develop bike business focused on social good
Through their Commitment to Action, former CGI U students and current social entrepreneurs Matthew Wilkins and Christopher Deschenes have developed a bamboo bicycle business<http://www.metro.us/new-york/group-raises-funds-to-pedal-forward-with-new-york-city-made-bamboo-bicycles/zsJpat---OAYV06GJpSKA/>, and a percentage of the proceeds from each bike's sale goes to purchase bicycles from independent dealers in developing countries. Those bikes are then given to partners who would then distribute them to specific groups in need.
"From there Deschenes encouraged Wilkins to take part in the Clinton Global Initiative University conference and submit the project. By March 2012, the team was voted winner of the CGI U Commitment Bracket and got to meet former President Bill Clinton and presenter Jon Stewart."
