KEY BLOCK----- Sorry if I've been a little MIA lately, I've been much busier than usual. There are three of us here in Afghanistan to perform legal review of all the contract actions submitted by 200+ contracting personnel. Unfortunately for me, one is an Army JAG and his annual performance report just closed out. The other is an Air Force JAG and the boss signed her "Letter of Evaluation." Both, I've learned, are horrible officers motivated solely by what they have to gain personally with no regard to the country they ostensibly serve. Since both now have signed reviews, they've each concluded that there is nothing to be gained by performing any work and pass EVERYTHING to me. (not an exaggeration--one said to me that since she's received her deployment award she can now ignore her inbox) As you may be able to tell, I'm bitter about this fact. Not so much that I am busy--it actually makes the day go faster and provides me a better opportunity to meet our clients and better understand the mission here. I'm just bitter that they are still here. If neither wants to do any work because they leave soon they should leave now. The taxpayer should not subsidize their laziness. Other than having to deal with those two jokers, I am actually quite good. The boss seems to have taken notice of the fact that I am working my tail off and performing well, which is nice (particularly considering that I was supposed to be the liability as I came in with no procurement experience). The weather is finally turning and we are having the occasional clear day. I even ran outside on our 1/2 mile track yesterday. I did about five miles and while it was pleasant to be in the sun, my chest felt a little funny for the rest of the day. As much as it pains me to say so, now that I can say that I've run outside in Afghanistan I may be relegated to the treadmill for the remainder of my time here. Other than work and working out I've actually managed to watch a couple episodes of Murder, She Wrote and am very glad that Mae got it for me as it is a nice way to end a long day. Any way we can do our catching up via email this week? I'm not sure how late I'll be here tonight and will likely crash as soon as I get back to my room. Hope you all are well. I love and miss you lots. -- Gabe Podesta Delivered-To: [email protected] Received: by 10.140.32.230 with SMTP id h93csp62017qgh; Sun, 13 Apr 2014 03:42:51 -0700 (PDT) Return-Path: <[email protected]> Received-SPF: pass (google.com: domain of [email protected] designates 10.180.188.66 as permitted sender) client-ip=10.180.188.66 Authentication-Results: mr.google.com; spf=pass (google.com: domain of [email protected] designates 10.180.188.66 as permitted sender) [email protected]; dkim=pass [email protected] X-Received: from mr.google.com ([10.180.188.66]) by 10.180.188.66 with SMTP id fy2mr5378358wic.45.1397385770006 (num_hops = 1); Sun, 13 Apr 2014 03:42:50 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20120113; h=mime-version:date:message-id:subject:from:to:content-type; bh=FJXVDag6yEUbVN8qvgth4y1+O2UT2r5j9FrpDAA+m9I=; b=V+CUoAUJSCd7VW4OGbg16SOBE1d3C17yInH9ZjmQJ02q4Xs7YbdCH3e475lB0krUo1 /Jk8c7ivis4mZ3WhFQk2++tNsLtDFYuSe/Dikgr8p9rmGJMyieT7P7gsQjnCrbRJaQkn UTrExEpT6gKH4h1Bxzoh7n5NQyhr2BBPSx+SWIFxoxO2H+77GKlUvNXp/OqgKU+joKfp 12d6AJhJ+mPhW0krMPn6a5YKRkAynOt670TUMtG0RrDp9letjAd9uccq+RsnaAJIDM2o AEJq2nPV9Z6MhkngD5sZBgUauUlxWWap4ZOrZX/L3grWZJDLifgelkREdfOn+oc1FUjP X6rQ== MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Received: by 10.180.188.66 with SMTP id fy2mr5378358wic.45.1397385770001; Sun, 13 Apr 2014 03:42:50 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.217.65.4 with HTTP; Sun, 13 Apr 2014 03:42:49 -0700 (PDT) Date: Sun, 13 Apr 2014 15:12:49 +0430 Message-ID: <CAP-MWF7G2jyGZfVqAqEOvDHCWPp3KgxbmWudRtGp8dYjO4q-WA@mail.gmail.com> Subject: Checking In From: Gabe Podesta <[email protected]> To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]>, Mary Podesta <[email protected]> Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary=001a11c383be6f69d304f6ea3a03 --001a11c383be6f69d304f6ea3a03 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Sorry if I've been a little MIA lately, I've been much busier than usual.
