Hi all - As we gear up for the 5th Annual Health Matters Activation Summit<https://www.clintonfoundation.org/our-work/clinton-health-matters-initiative/programs/health-matters-summit>, we wanted to give you some updates on recent events, Foundation work, and announcements in the news.
Abby Wambach to join health leaders for 2016 Health Matters Activation Summit
On Sunday, January 24, and Monday, January 25, President Bill Clinton and Clinton Foundation Vice Chair Chelsea Clinton will host the Clinton Health Matters Initiative's (CHMI) Fifth Annual Activation Summit, a yearly convening of the country's foremost health experts and implementers. Participants will engage in action-oriented dialogue, take examples and cues from CHMI's key programs and partners, and use case studies of universally applicable successes and less-discussed failures to chart the path for scaling and sustaining what works in health advancement.
Key themes at this year's Summit will include communities as centers of health innovation, the quest for longevity and healthy aging, health-tech innovation, and reducing health disparities. The Activation Summit further aims to underscore the value of facilitating cross-sector solutions and systemic strengthening of chronic disease prevention efforts. The event will follow the CareerBuilder Challenge, a PGA TOUR event held January 21 - 24 in La Quinta, CA, in partnership with the Clinton Foundation.
World Cup and Olympic Champion Abby Wambach will be joining the 2016 Health Matters Activation Summit, where she and Chelsea Clinton will discuss the inclusion and empowerment of girls and women in sports. Read a piece in the Desert Sun<http://www.desertsun.com/story/news/health/2016/01/15/abby-wambach-joining-clintons-health-summit/78828270/?from=global&sessionKey=&autologin=> on Abby's participation and what to expect at this year's Summit.

Bringing together stakeholders to address unique health challenges
Key to CHMI's work is community health transformation. Last weekend, the Natchez Democrat published a story<http://www.natchezdemocrat.com/2016/01/10/new-programs-being-developed-to-make-city-healthier/> on CHMI's work in Adams County, Mississippi, where we've brought stakeholders together to address the unique health needs of the community.
"It's time to get healthy. With the help of the Clinton Foundation and an army of lifestyle coaches and health advocates, the City of Natchez is planning to do just that.
In May, the Clinton Health Matters Initiative released a Blueprint for Action document, detailing its strategy for improving the overall health of Natchez and Adams County. The document includes what it calls 'bold action steps,' as well as ways the foundation will mature each step's effectiveness."

He has partnered with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and is accepting donations on his website (beyond72.com) to help fund programs that will combat childhood obesity."
Bob Harrison on the "Five things we learned in 2015 about the future of philanthropy"
Clinton Global Initiative CEO Bob Harrison authored a piece for Quartz<http://qz.com/584662/five-things-we-learned-in-2015-about-the-future-of-philanthropy/> that outlines what CGI and its members learned about philanthropy in 2015, including the importance of working together across sectors, being inclusive, inspiring impact with technology, empowering millennials to become social entrepreneurs, and challenging others to raise the bar. The article was also published on LinkedIn Pulse<https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/five-things-we-learned-2015-future-philanthropy-robert-harrison?trk=prof-post>.
"But this new world of philanthropy wasn't built overnight. Ever since the Clinton Global Initiative was founded as an experiment in 2005, we have seen firsthand how bringing together the world's top business, government, and civil society leaders could help address the great challenges of the 21st century. A decade-and by our count, more than 430 million improved lives-later, CGI members are helping shape modern philanthropy."

CGI commitments encourage private sector to increase LGBT inclusion wherever they do business
The Huffington Post published an op-ed<http://www.huffingtonpost.com/cynthia-marshall/a-call-for-all-global-com_b_8885324.html> by Cynthia Marshall, AT&T's Chief Diversity Officer, which highlights two LGBT-related 2015 CGI Commitments to Action made by the Brunswick Group and Human Rights Campaign. Cynthia calls on private sector leaders to increase inclusion for LGBT workers around the world:
'While many individual companies have stepped up on LGBT issues, the private sector now has an opportunity to pool our resources and speak with one voice to drive even greater change. Many of the world's top business leaders took a collective leap forward in September at the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Annual Meeting. This gathering of world leaders saw the launch of two seminal LGBT rights-related commitments to make the private sector more inclusive."
