Lee was very upset that we profiled Mary Kay Henry, Lily Eskelsen Garcia and Randi Weingarten, with no mention or outreach to AFSCME. I should have thought to include AFSCME when this went around and apologize for that oversight (I've apologized to Brian Weeks as well). Lee and AFSCME are particularly sensitive because of the amount of investment they have made in ground game in Iowa. They are by far the largest operation on the ground in the state, with close to 60 people full time working to educate AFSCME members and volunteer with our campaign on weekends. Last weekend, AFSCME completed 161 canvass shifts out of our total 501 labor shifts completed for the weekend. They have had offices open in Iowa since December. They now have five full time staff in New Hampshire as well. Additionally, there is sensitivity because of their long standing support for Hillary in both the 2008 and current primary. Lee feels like he should have been included in this post and AFSCME should have been recognized. I am working with Brian Weeks, AFSCME Political Director to correct this. Brian thinks that a call from John to acknowledge the oversight and thank him for AFSCME's work on the ground will be very helpful. I have also worked with the Iowa State team to connect Lee in a private clutch with HRC while Lee is in Iowa this weekend. Brian thinks this will be enough to smooth it over. For additional background, we are working to get WJC to the Cedar Rapids for the labor canvass/rally on 1/31/16 at 4:30pm. We are waiting for WJC's team to 100% confirm but this looks very very likely to happen. Lee could ask about this and if HRC is going to be able to attend.
