Judge Karen Miller
The veteran prosecutor whose job it was to go after tennis hottie Anna KournIkova [11's mom, Palm Beacher Alla, says
Judge Karen Miller is to blame for Alla's probation, and no jail after she left her 5-year-old child home alone (21.
Koumikova's recent gLAy_plea (21 for the January incident led to a sentence of three years probation, 100 hours of community
service and random drug testing.
And while Koumikova offered no explanation for what she did, the judge withheld adjudication. That means Kournikova's
criminal record won't show a conviction.
This weekend, socialite Alla then took the 5-year-old, who was injured when he was left alone (31 because he jumped or fell
from the second floor of the family home, to North Carolina. He is competing in a big-deal golf tournament for children.
The prosecutor, Assistant State Attorney Jill Richstone (41, says the judge accepted Koumikova's plea and imposed the
sentence despite the "enormous potential danger [3] to the child."
Richstone advocated for harsher punishment.
Richstone made her comments in an email about the Page2Live (31's coverage of the sentencing (21.

"Mr. Lambiet: Richstone wrote in a missive she allowed me to publish and which I edited for brevity, I was disappointed by
the inaccurate and misleading information contained in your story.
"(It) insinuates that the (office of State Attorney Mike McAuliffe) offered the defendant a plea. Based on the seriousness of the
crime and the lack of explanation for her actions, our office never offered the defendant any plea bargain. As such, the
defendant exercised a basic legal right and pled guilty directly to the judge.
"Many criminal defendants chose this avenue when they feel our plea offers are too harsh or if we do not offer them a plea
bargain.
"After the defendant pled guilty directly to the court, we advocated for an adjudication of guilt and questioned the purpose of
probation. Obviously taking into account the defendant's lack of criminal record, the judge structured the sentence that was
ultimately imposed. All parties in the courtroom recognized the enormous potential danger that the child was placed in due to
the defendant's unbelievable actions. I can assure you that nothing was done 'to avoid a trial.'"
When reached a home Saturday, Judge Miller declined comment.
Miller, by the way, is the judge who first agreed to allow a DUI manslaughter suspect m to fly to Haiti earlier this year, then
rescinded the approval as questions arose. The case against the son of a well-known doctor has been languishing for nearly
two years.
