Memo. International Peace Institute in New York and donations from Jeffrey Epstein 1. The International Peace Institute (IPI) is an independent, international, not-for-profit think tank dedicated to managing risk and building resilience to promote peace, security, and sustainable development. (See www.ipinst.org ) 2. TPI was founded in 1970 as the International Peace Academy (IPA), which focused on training military officers and diplomats for United Nations peacekeeping opearations. Its offices are next to the United Nations headquarters in New York, with regional offices in Vienna and Manama (Bahrain). Its President, since 2005, is Mr. Terje Rod-Larsen, a Norwegian national. Mr. Kevin Rudd, former Prime Minister of Australia, is the chair of the IPI Board of Directors, with Mr. Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, as Honorary Chair. 3. IPI's funding comes from a diverse donor base, which appears to include go'vernments and private individuals and foundations. 4. The deceased Jeffrey Epstein appears to have had at least two charitable foundations from which he distributed funds: a. The reffreys_Enstein VI Foundation, Virgin Islands (founded in 2000) According to press releases from this foundation, and from www.ieffrnvepsteininternational.com dating from April 16, 2013, this foundation established a fellowship fund at the International Peace Institute to honor deceased Middle East diplomat Richard Hooper. Amounts are not specified. IPI's own web-page refers to this fellowship being launched October 19, 2011. Details of funding is not provided on IPI's web-page. The press release from the Jeffrey Epstein VI Foundation referred to above also indicate that this foundation supported the IPI's launch of its regional office in Bahrain in 2013. No specification of concrete funding is provided. b. Gratitude America LTD, St. Thomas, Virgin Islands (founded in 2012) According to The Daily Beast (19 August 2019) one of this foundation's biggest donations include a $ 375.000 donation to the International Peace Institute. The Daily Beast refers to a review of the tax returns of Gratitude America LTD as a source for this information. 5. One of the employees of the Norwegian ' ' t f Foreign Affairs has been informed by a national currently living in we know her identity), that at the time she was working at the International Peace Institute (Nov. 2014 — Apr. 2016) she was asked on more than one occasion, to attend to very short-term trainees from Eastern Europe. These trainees were all young, beautiful females, and without the education required to EFTA00084224 work at the think tank. They had a brief stint at IPI, during which they also visited the UN building to have pictures taken by them there. These pictures where sent to Mr. Epstein. 6. She thought that this was strange, but did not connect it with Mr. Epstein's other activities at that time. 7. We have not contacted the individual or IPI to verify the above.
