As well as Stan Franklin and Itamar Arel (formerly Elhanany), you should talk to Joscha Bach
who just released this excellent book
his AGI project was this one
, but he got fed up with AGI funding hassles and has spent the last
2 years starting an ebook company, with the goal of making enough $$ to fund his own AGI
research ;-p
Some of his ideas about motivation and emotion and goals and planning in AI systems will get
imported into my own AI system
Those are my main suggestions but here are some others that may pique your interest...
Someone who doesn't know my work that well, but who would speak to the usefulness and
importance of funding AGI at this juncture, is Juergen Schmidhuber (another German)
He was keynote speaker at AGI-09. Brilliant, brilliant polymath.
His former PhD student Marcus Rutter
is also brilliant, and created much of the formal theory of
intelligence that I'm now connecting my own AI designs to...
Eric Baum is a very smart Jewish AGI guy, who lives near New York... His book
is quite good. He has his own approach to AGI and since he was lucky enough to have rich
parents, he's funding a team to implement his ideas himself. He and I don't quite see eye-
to-eye on how to build an AGI but he certainly believes AGI is worth funding now as he's
putting his money where his mouth is.... You and Eric would get along well, I think.
By the way Minsky and Schank do not know about any of these guys ;-)
One of the few funded AGI projects is Nick Cassimatis's
He is a Minsky protoge' and needless to say I think his approach is doomed to fail, but he's
a nice guy. He is focusing solely on "object tracking" at the moment (having an AI system
track movements of an object) but has his sights explicitly on full human-level AGI
A fantastic neural net researcher, who knows and likes my work, is Wlodek Duch
Mostly he's worked on perception (vision processing etc.) but he has a broad AGI-type
theoretical framework. He says if I move to Poland my work will be amply funded with no
problems ;-p

I guess that's more than enough pointers for now ;-)
