Teaching kids to READ & CODE Dear Jeffrey, I wanted to personally invite you to a dinner (evening of June 14) at the home of Private Astronaut, Video Game Pioneer & X PRIZE Trustee Richard Garriott de Cayeux. On this evening, I'm going to giving a confidential briefing on our plans to launch a massive Global Literacy XPRIZE later this year. * This is probably the most important XPRIZE we ever launch* ... and we're heading to launch in Q3/Q4 We're defining "Literacy" as reading and coding.. Approximately 67 million children live in poor, remote areas where there is no access to schools and where everyone around them is illiterate. There are at least another 100 million children who live where schooling is so inadequate that they also fail to learn to read in any meaningful manner. The XPRIZE Foundation believes that we are on the cusp of a "moonshot moment" for global literacy, and a Global Literacy XPRIZE has been conceptualized to rethink how technology can be leveraged by the child herself in a way that allows for self-directed learning. The prize has the potential to change what people think is possible regarding the means and methods used to teach and learn. The $15M Global Literacy XPRIZE will award the team best able to bring 200 children (ages 6 — 9) from total illiteracy to stage 3 English literacy & how to Code in the most autonomous and scalable manner. Global Literacy XPRIZE Salon: When: June 14th Time: 6:30-9pm Location: New York City home of Richard & Laetitia Garriott de Cayeux (exact address released upon RSVP) EFTA00389466 RSVP By June 11 to Steve Scott at Cocktails and dinner will be served I hope you can join us for this important discussion.
