Kung Hei Fat Choy. It's Lunar New Year in China today (Year of the Horse) and most Asia markets were
closed, including: China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines.
Japan's Nikkei closed -0.62% which makes it -3.1% for the week and -8.5% for the month of January.
Japan Tobacco outperformed closing +5.65% after raising its outlook and indicating it would raise
domestic prices more than expected. European markets opened mixed but have tilted for sale since the
open and fading with autos and banks leading the way lower. Weaker than expected German retail sales
has the DAX at the bottom of the pile -1.4%. Luxury has been weak as of late as highlighted by the
recent Mulberry & Tod's misses, but it outperforms today after LVMH (+5.8%) & Ferragamo (+5.2%) both
put up solid numbers. Dutch cable company Altice (ATC NA) went public today and is currently +2.0%
from deal price to E28.83/share. In the US after hours trading session: GOOG +4%, BRCM +5%, CMG
+12%, WYNN +4%, ZYNGA +20%, JDSU +4.5%, and AMZN -4.5%. Its month-end today and the S&P
is set to close January in the red (-2.93% mtd). SPA's -9 handles = 1772 last.
