YIr Dear Jeffrey, Welcome to The Kitchen Community's inaugural eNewsletter! The faster we move here at TKC, the more there is to share with you, and I look forward to keeping you posted on our progress as we create community through food. EFTA01204866 Just this fall, we've installed 14 new Learning Gardens at schools in Colorado, Chicago, and Los Angeles and the Central Valley. Our team is hard at work supporting each and every one of our nearly 200 Learning Gardens, and the schools are enjoying the fruits of their labor, literally and metaphorically! The Kitchen Community is making great strides in teaching kids about real food, arming teachers with powerful tools for hands-on education, and creating community founded on good food culture. I invite you to join me in this mission--there is more work to be done, and we can't do it alone. Our community of supporters is the key to our success, and we rely on the generosity of donors like you to continue building Learning Gardens in local schools. Please join us today! Warm wishes, Kimbal Since 2012, The Kitchen Community has been a proud partner of Giada De Laurenfiis, Food Network star. Along with the William Morris Endeavor (WME) Foundation, Giada is committed to connecting California's kids with real food through our Learning Gardens. On her first Learning Garden installation with The Kitchen Community, Giada said: planted a Learning Garden at Foster Elementary School in Los Angeles. The students, faculty and I spent a Saturday afternoon planting...we had so much fun!! While we were gardening, we talked about how to take care of plants and why proper care is so important...I loved seeing how excited my little helpers were to be learning while playing in the dirt and I am hoping it inspires them to put more greens on their plate!... (click here to read more) C. Naturally, one of our favorite topics at The Kitchen Community is FOOD! We love when we get the chance to help students turn Learning Garden vegetables into a delicious and healthy meal. One of our Colorado Garden Educators, Tim Villard, spent a beautiful autumn day this September with the students at Garden Place Academy harvesting the last of their summer vegetables and planting fall greens. At the same time, Chef Anthony "Sal Salazar from The Kitchen restaurant gave cooking demos that utilized the same seasonal produce they were planting that day! We love seeing Learning Garden vegetables make their way to the cafeteria. EFTA01204867 The Kitchen Community was so excited to work with the team from Liberty Global's Denver office for a special project benefiting The Boys & Girls Club of Metro Denver and Force Elementary. Liberty Global, a leading international cable operator, is our first corporate sponsor in Colorado; and we're so thrilled to have them as a partner. The day of the Learning Garden installation, more than 100 Liberty Global employees and their families gathered at Force Elementary to build a brand-new Learning Garden and complete a number of other school beautification projects. Volunteers painted colorful murals both inside and out, installed mosaic walkways, and even planted a butterfly garden! The Learning Garden is used by the students and staff at Force, and the on-site Boys and Girls Club. The two groups share the work of maintaining the Learning Garden, and even better. share the bounty! They harvested nearly twenty pounds of salad greens in only the first two months of growing.
