Superintendent Juneau stole the show with her insights into the challenges facing students and educators in rural America and her common sense approach on what we need to do to improve educational opportunities for all children.<br>

To be quite honest, as impressed as I was with Denise then, it was nothing compared to how I would feel after spending several days in May traveling across Montana with her. <br>

Superintendent Juneau and I traveled to the Flathead and Blackfeet Reservations visiting with students, educators, and community leaders. These are the places that many Americans have forgotten, but not Denise. It was clear what a difference her leadership and commitment to these students and communities was making – everywhere we went she was embraced with gratitude and reverence.<br>

To truly understand why Superintendent Juneau is so effective in her role, you need to get a full picture of everything she brings to this office. <em><strong>Denise Juneau is the first American Indian woman elected to a statewide position in Montana and in the country.</strong></em> She is a member of the Mandan and Hidatsa Tribes and a descendant of the Blackfeet Tribe. As a matter of fact, she grew up on the Blackfeet Reservation in Browning, Montana – one of the many places we visited.<br>

Denise followed her parents’ footsteps into the education profession and was a classroom teacher before working in the state education agency on state curricular and academic policy.<br>
<br>
Denise was first elected MT Superintendent of Public Instruction in 2008, and now is facing a tough re-election. <em><strong>Republicans realize that Denise is a rising star, not only in Montana but nationally too, and they are determined to stop her.</strong></em><br>
