From: To: Subject: RE: Software for Viewing Discovery Date: Fri, 25 Sep 2020 14:37:50 +0000 M, Without seeing what was originally produced, the file extension below look mostly like system or application generated files. These files are usually in support of and application or system function and generally don't store user accessible data. I will ask Jeff to confirm and let you know. Thanks so much for your help earlier this week getting VLC onto a CD for Maxwell to be able to review some video footage at MDC. Unfortunately, we've hit another road block in converting several other types of files (listed below) to formats she can review on MDC's (very limited) computers. I'm unable to open these files on my computer, so I'm not sure how to get them to Maxwell to review. I'm guessing some of these file types don't actually contain any reviewable material and were added during the discovery process, but I was hoping to hear your thoughts on how we could get these files into a format Maxwell can easily review at MDC. PRODUCTION 2: 164920 PRODUCTION 2: 165455-165470 (includes .dii, .ami, .cms, .exh, .mdb, .oll, .ptf, .pts, .sbf, .tml, .txt, .vid, .xmef, .xml, and .lef) PRODUCTION 2: 165471=165486 (.mpg and .smi) PRODUCTION 2: 165487-165488 (.dvt and .vol) PRODUCTION 2: 165489-165517 (exact same as the above 4 series of items) PRODUCTION 3: 169505-169749 (the PDFs here open without issue, but these folders also include types like .fpr, .Isproj, mostly .fls that will not open) Thanks very much for your patience and help on this! We really, really appreciate it! She is currently in MDC Brooklyn and apparently their computers do not have the capability to view Microsoft excel files. Would converting them to .csv work? From: Sent: Tuesday, September 22, 2020 4:31 PM To: Cc: Subject: RE: Software for Viewing Discovery I'll defer to =, but these are all very basic file types that any PC should be able to open. Is the issue that they are using a Mac? xls files are Microsoft Excel files, for which they would need to purchase a licensed version of the software; even if we could send it to them it would be illegal. txt files are as basic as they come, viewable in NotePad or WordPad, both built into the Windows operating system. I am not familiar with who "Maxwell" is; but unless they have no access to the internet: eml email files can be opened in Thunderbird, which is a free software downloadable directly over the internet at: www.thunderbird.net Depending on which audio/video files they need to view, there are hundreds of free viewers also available on the internet. From: Sent: Tuesday, September 22, 2020 3:36 PM To: Cc: Subject: Software for Viewing Discovery Hey guys, Apparently Maxwell has been having issues with viewing discovery because she lacks the software needed to view certain kinds of files. To the best of our knowledge those file types are: .xls, .eml, .txt, and any audio/video files. Is it possible to load the necessary software to view these kinds of files onto a drive along with the materials? Thanks, • Paralegal Specialist U.S. Attorney's Office I SDNY 1 St. Andrew's Plaza New York, NY 10007 EFTA00096486
