Dear M,
It is my pleasure as Director of the Julien J. Studley Graduate Program in International Affairs (SGPIA) at The
New School to congratulate you on your acceptance into our Master's program. I very much hope you will join
us in fall 2018.
We are in the midst of another exciting year at SGPIA. Our students are preparing to participate in
International Field Programs in South Africa, the Balkans, Colombia, Cuba, Argentina, and Ethiopia. Others
are planning to remain in New York City to participate in our intensive United Nations Summer Study.
Students in the Havana Studio are spending their spring break in Cuba working in city preservation with
government officials. Students in one of our Practicum groups are preparing to travel to Kenya in April to
work with a local NGO to implement a monitoring and evaluation project.
This has also been a year of faculty achievement and contribution to discussion of critical international issues.
Faculty member Sakiko Fukuda-Parr won the American Political Science Association's prize for Best Book in
Human Rights for Fulfilling Social and Economic Rights. Professor Sheba Tejani led a successful panel
discussion on feminist economics, which included internationally prominent feminist scholars and
practitioners from UN Women and the Open Society Foundations. Professor Nina Khrushcheva was a featured
speaker in a New York Times Talk on Russia and the 2016 election.
Should you accept our offer of admission, you will join this dynamic community of scholars, practitioners, and
advocates working in diverse fields: development, human rights, conflict resolution and peacebuilding,
journalism and new media, documentary filmmaking, the environment, government, urban planning, and
countless others.
In thinking about your choice, I encourage you to:
• Visit the new SGPIA blog
• Explore the career paths of SGPIA graduates
•Connect with us on Twitter
• Join us for one of our many upcoming events
