October 21, 2021 Call with Dr. Lisa Rocchio • Leaving for Italy on 11/16 or 11117, returning on 11/27 • LR has treated victims who in their past have engaged in sexually abusive behavior of others; specifically, has treated perpetrators of intimate partner violence; area of specialization is not treatment of perpetrators • When a patient comes in for treatment, it is not LR's job to conduct investigation to determine objective veracity of what the patient is saying; when someone comes in for treatment, LR generally relies on self-report, but she is always tuning in for areas of consistency and inconsistency in what the patient is saying; LR probes for details and looking at what the patients are telling her in context of literature and her knowledge base of norms • Times when LR is treating patients where tests are administered; patients given initial screening measures to get sense of overall level of functioning and where it will be important to address further inquiry as part of clinical assessment • If someone describing things inconsistent from one appointment to another or inconsistent with what have shared in the past, LR may point that out and try to discuss to understand; goal is to understand things from client's perspective as clinician • If client reporting symptoms of experiencing traumatic event and if it is not consistent with what LR would expect to see, that would pose situation for her to engage in further inquiry, seek consultation from a peer; goal to further her understanding of what is happening with client and client's experiences and issues presenting from treatment perspective • Might be times where appropriate to bring in family member or partner; LR has done that before • Might be times when patient presents with cognitive difficulties or memory issues or learning issues; might refer out for examinations; in those cases, would use work of other experts to inform treatment • Perpetrators use whatever need to or can to generate sense of comfort as they connect with child; may be that use dog, shared interest in art or camping; idea is to show an interest in child and things child finds interesting; helps provide a sense of false safety • Grooming is one of strategies utilized to facilitate attachment; perpetrators use grooming techniques in order to win trust and reliance and to slowly and gradually move the line of normality so that kids very slowly become accommodated to more and more deviant behavior without being aware that is what is happening (e.g., start with dirty jokes, then show a few pornographic photos; or start with back rub and then move to different body parts before moving to overtly sexual behavior); grooming is a pattern of behavior the impact of which is to win trust and develops into attachment • LR was asked to provide literature on attachment and grooming, delayed disclosure, victims or child victims feeling more comfortable in presence of third parties or women 3502-008 Page I of 1 SUBJECT TO PROTECTIVE ORDER PARAGRAPHS 7, 8, 9, 10, 15, and 17 EFTA_00001371 EFTA00156712
