I think there are some fundamental reputational concerns with WJC's name being associated with the Centre, but given that it already is, and that Stella is someone known to WJC and wants to raise money for a program of the Centre that actually IS worthwhile, it might be ok as long as we ensure she cannot use WJC's name in printed materials or invitations without our prior permission. Unless we want to pull WJC's name from the Centre (which now operates alongside a youth hostel), then it probably would be good to build up the substantive good works of the center (such as this program). Alternatively, if we want to consider pulling WJC's name from the Centre entirely, one of us or someone we trust should go do a site visit. It's nearly impossible (and probably ill advised) to make that decision without seeing the Centre first with our own eyes. I'd welcome your feedback. The program has the potential to provide both therapy and research on the subject of post traumatic stress in youth populations of post-conflict areas. The Kosovo youth have been to the Clinton Centre for psychological and skill training and to interact with their counterparts in Northern Ireland. I spoke with the Director of the Post Traumatic Stress division of the American Psychiatric Association and they are interested in holding their annual meeting at the Clinton Centre and doing some research there. The Centre has submitted a Commitment to the Clinton Global Initiative. Being part of CGI would provide a network for the Clinton Centre and an opportunity to cooperate with other CGI programs that overlap with the Kosovo work. The Centre needs funding if it is to develop and sustain a top-quality program. I have volunteered to organize a support group in the U.S. to help raise funds for them. This Friends of the Clinton Centre would solicit funds from existing Northern Ireland funding agencies, The International Fund for Ireland, the American Ireland Fund, the British Council (they have already committed) and the Dublin Dept. of Foreign Affairs which has expressed an interest in helping. We will also solicit money from private corporations and interested individuals. We would like to raise money for the current programs and also establish an endowment to sustain the program in perpetuity. We are seeking your approval to raise money in support of the Clinton Centre. We will put safeguards in place to guarantee the highest ethical standards.
