Lawrence.
I'll talk a bit about "fossils, genes, and the origin of organs." The idea is to use the tree of life as a predictive
tool both for developing new fossil expeditions and for experiments in genetics.... Let me know if you need
more details.
See you soon.
Cheers,

As the advisory board meeting will occur in a little over a month in St. Thomas I wanted to touch base with
all of you and give you a brief outline of what we are hoping for, and also to provide each of you with a short
homework assignment.
The meeting will be more of a discussion of ideas than a review of progress and making plans (although
there will be a bit of that). I would like to ask each of you to prepare a 30 min-ish (can be shorter or longer)
presentation on one key question you have been thinking about, or working on, in your respective areas of
research, each of which reflects an important area for consideration in our origins program. We will use
these mini-lectures as a chance to launch discussions of areas on which we should focus. If you could frame
your talk around a question (preferably with an origins theme) that would be great, and if you could let me
know what it is in advance, we will work out a detailed program before the meeting.
We are looking forward to having you in ST. Thomas. I can assure you that the organized sessions will
occupy only a modest fraction of the time there and that we will plan some interesting activities around the
actual meeting.
