EFTA00314520 EFTA00314521 OUR FIRM Hart Howerton is a global advisory, strategic planning, and design organization specializing in large-scale conservation and sustainable development. Our integrated team ofstrategists, planners, architects, landscape architects and environmental engineers brings an interdisciplinary perspective to the world's most sensitive environments, creating sustainable places that become lasting legacies. OUR APPROACH We work very closely and partner with our clients—becoming a part of their development team—to understand their vision, business objectives, and market opportunities. We consider market, financial, political and historical conditions as a way to guide a project's design. We combine the broad experience and technical depth of a large international firm with the kind of direct, active, personal service of principals usually found only in smaller firms. We seek out the best local partners and experts to form teams that can effectively execute a project vision. And, we stay with a project from conceptualization to completion and beyond, while a new environment develops and a new community takes shape. CONSERVATION STRATEGIES We are honored that many of the places we have helped create and are asked to help protect are continually ranked as international models by industry experts. We understand the complexity and challenges of developing land responsibly and successfully in today's world. We partner with our clients to realize the best value and development strategy for their land assets and bring the same discipline and expertise to the smallest design detail. We have the privilege of working in many one-of-a-kind environments around the world. With that comes a responsibility to help steward these unique land resources. To us, this means: • Creating new models for land use that integrate conservation, economic development and community strategies — the triple bottom line • Working at a scale that maximizes the impact of our land conservation strategies while creating best-in-class places • Taking a whole systems approach to design — integrating economic, market research, land planning, ecological, engineering, and architectural practices at every stage of the process • Strategic, long term thinking to create value that sustains the natural and built environment over time. HART HOWE RTON 3 EFTA00314522 KUKI'O Kona Coast, Hawaii We created a world-class golf and beach club community true to early Hawaiian tradition and aesthetic and deeply respectful of the ancient culture. The firm designed a complete 660 acre (270 ha) private beach club and golf community with an 18-hole Fazio course on the spectacular Kona Coast of the Big Island. Our client was a group made up of Discovery Land, Crestbrook Partners, Terrabrook, the Getty Trust and Hawaii Land Company. At the heart of this community is a Tom Fazio-designed course with a 34,000 square foot (3,150 sm) clubhouse as well as a lodge, indoor/outdoor-spa, dining pavilions, beach bar and fully serviced cottages. The architecture incorporates the best of the traditional Hawaiian materials and construction methods, including state-of-the-art thatched roofs. 4 HART 11O5VERTON EFTA00314523 l -- --_ -- EFTA00314524 6 HART IICIWE RTON EFTA00314525 HART HOWERTON 7 EFTA00314526 alas EFTA00314527 EFTA00314528 EL DORADO Los Cabo; Mexico For El Dorado, The Discovery Land Company commissioned us as planners and architects for the golf dub complex, gatehouse, pro shop, sales pavilion, dining, children's center, fitness, beach clubhouse and spa. Completed in 2010, the compound of cottages on Esther's Island is deferential in its design to the coastal traditions of the island. With an Integrated Project Planning approach, construction specialists, energy experts and designers all collaborated to develop comprehensive green solutions to the project following LEED for Homes Gold Standards. The house uses multiple alternative clean energy sources, a state-of-the-art septic system and leaching held, water efficient fixtures, and renewable or reclaimed materials. With no access to utilities, a wind turbine and solar arrays provide the compound with 90 percent of its energy (propane is used for cooking and limited back-up for supplemental heating). The vertical-axis turbine, which spins like a barber's pole, is efficient in low wind, quieter and a better neighbor to birds than a windmill. 52 HART HOWE RTON EFTA00314571 I LCI Al i row r Rion; 53 EFTA00314572 ti,~ ~~"' EFTA00314573 HART HOWERTON 55 EFTA00314574 EAST HAMPTON RESIDENCE East Hampton, New York This large estate embraces a varied landscape of ocean beaches, dunes, a forest, fields, and manicured lawns and gardens. We help our clients manage land as an asset that increases in value over many years. • Our plans are market-driven. We utilize the professions of planning, architecture, and landscape architecture to create a competitive edge in the marketplace. • Our practice is interdisciplinary. We think and design in terms of complete environments. • We have been among the leaders in environmentally sound devel- opment. • We have had the opportunity to plan world-class places that have become a significant legacy in their communities. Our objective is to take on a limited number of high-quality projects each year, and to work closely with our clients to produce outstanding results. We can bring to a project the background of a large international practice, but we are still organized to provide the enthusiasm, fast response, and attention to detail that results from the personal attention of the principals. We manage our workload to make that possible.
